The Powers Theatre opened in 1916, built for and named after Julia M. Powers. The 400-seat theater was located on Sweden Street. The theater originally presented both vaudeville and films, before eventually turning to films only.
It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1945, reopening on February 11, 1945 with Judy Garland in “Meet Me In St. Louis”. It remained in operation by the Powers family until 1974 when it was closed.
