The Rivergate was opened in December 21, 1973 by Martin Theatres. It was located in the Rivergate Plaza. At different times it was called the Rivergate 3 & 4, and 5 & 6 before settling in ay 9 & 10. Martin was taken over by Carmike in 1985 and operated the theatre until it closed in 1991. The building was later converted to a Goodwill store.

This theatre at the plaza was opened by Massey Theatres. It was a competitor to Martin’s Rivergate Twin at the Mall. When Martin bought out Massey, then it became the Rivergate 3&4. As the original Rivergate Twin added screens, the Rivergate 3&4 kept getting renamed.
