The El Paso Theater opened in the late 30s, located on Main Street with seating for 375. It replaced the old Opera House as El Paso’s main movie venue which had moving screenings on its second floor since the early years of the 20th century. The second floor of the El Paso Theater housed a Masonic Lodge.

The theater closed during the 60s, and was torn down in 1971 after water damage from burst pipes and vandalism took their toll. A parking lot is now on the site.

I have dear friends who grew up in El Paso Illinois so was sad to read that a parking lot is now where the El Paso once stood! :–(
