Griffith Theatres ran a display ads in the 1948, 1952, 1953, and 1961 Chandler High School Yearbooks. In the 1948 edition a Dixie Theatre was also listed, but most likely this just was a new name for the old Odeon.

The Cinema Section of Roadside Oklahome is closed, they no longer have theatre photos according to the site. See their home page for more info. Lauren has pretty much posted all her photos on CT.

It was built in 1926, and today’s admission price is just $4.00. It was closed when I passed through town so can’t add any interesting interior descriptions. Judging from lobby posters it looks as if its a strictly P.G. house. Too bad, the towns folk will miss most of the better films.

This c1940 photo of Chandler’s Odeon serves to illustrate how humble some small town theatres could be.

I was in Chandler a few days ago. The museum across the street has a few of the original seats with the H&S logo on the side. Looking at some of the exhibits, it appears that the Odeon Theater was in business close to the H&S until 1955. However, there was some confusion amongst the locals as to whether the Odeon was next door to the H&S or down the street.
