The Holladay Center Cinemas opened in June of 1988 by Loews Odeon. The theatre was hailed as the return of the elegant theatre. It featured state of the art wide screens and sound, the auditoriums had luxurious plush seating.

The interior designs were elegant in Contemporary with marble floors and wall to wall carpeting in the auditoriums. It featured same day advance ticketing and real butter for pop corn. All auditoriums featured Dolby Stereo and one was equipped for 70MM presentation.

The theatre closed in March of 2001 and was reopened in April 2001 by Westates Theatres. Westates refurbished the seats and replaced carpeting. The Holladay is classified as a premium theatre.

It won’t map with the East portion in the address. If that is the correct address than these search engines are pretty much worthless for finding addresses.

I don’t understand it either, but if you go with 1945 E. Murray Holladay, Google with map it. I know after living in the Salt Lake area for 8 years that the E. means East.

Your right, if you put the E after 1945 Google will map it. But Google removes the E and returns 1945 Murray-Holladay Rd. Very weird.

If you can’t trust Google, who can you trust? Don’t lose any sleep over it. I’m sure that the people that live in Salt Lake City can find this theater without a map. :)

Mike, The Holladay Center closed 3, Mar. 2001, It was reopened on 20, Apr. 2001 by Westates. It was closed because of the Bankruptcy but as I said according to the Deseret News article it closed on 3, Mar. 2001. Mike the theatre actually opened on Friday 3, Jun. 1988. I believe that the Grand Opening ad ran all week end in the Deseret News.

you can contact me at www.movie-theatre.org/contact but I already have the ad from June 3rd.
The Deseret News microfilms are on the Google News Archives and I will be digging through that collection in the coming weeks.
