The short-lived Streamline Moderne style Varsity Theatre opened on Wood Street in 1941 seating a little over 900. It would last just 14 years before it was closed.

“The Varsity Theatre promoted its air-conditioning, which was coming into prominence in theatres in 1944, as many people didn’t have air conditioning in their homes and would go to movies, not only to watch the screen, but to enjoy the cool temperature. Deanna Durbin and Joseph Cotten starred in "Hers to Hold” at The Varsity and were called “A new thrill team,” plus it only cost 30 cents including tax. The latest news was also shown".
Bryan, I wonder who the architect for the Varsity was. Both the interior and exterior pictures look almost identical to the Varsity Theatre in University City, (St. Louis) Mo. That is before it was turned into a drug store.
If the Google view is accurate, this theater building is now long gone.
