It is MovieguyNYC. I heard Cinemark is doing the same thing.

No masking for scope on the small screens (4-7) and no masking for flat on the “big” screens (1-3) Modern movie going: recreating the home experience, just bigger.

Same situation at Kips Bay and Union Square. It’s shameful.

Dolby Digital is a sound processor used in a lot of movie theatres

Page name of this theater should be changed to AMC Village 7.

Yes. The Dolby digital was soon retired when the digital projection equipment was installed.

Auditorium #3 used to also be THX certified, I wonder if this was the same one they installed Dolby Digital sound in?

The Loews Village VII was among just eleven theaters in the United States that installed the then-new Dolby Digital sound system for their engagement of “Batman Returns” which opened twenty-five years ago today. And here’s the link to a retrospective article that commemorates the occasion.

So much improved after the renovations that took place around a year ago. I used to avoid, but it’s improved in pretty much every regard. The one negative on a recent visit to see a movie on the top floor, with two screens, was having a lot of bass coming from the adjacent auditorium, worse than hearing the subway trains rumbling past in the subterranean Angelika. But on the whole, just night and day better going to see movies here now than for the first two decades of the theate’s existence. Like most of the AMCs in NYC, the Loews name is entirely removed, The auditorium I was in had a seating capacity in the 55-60 range.

The only problem I found if someone a few rows don’t relcine, and I recline, heads get in the way. The slope should of been done better.

I love the new theater, I’ve seen Trumbo and Good Dino there and they made the screen sizes much bigger. Also when I went ticket prices were same as always before the renovation, about 15 dollars. Also the bathrooms are so nice now, they used to be awful before. Personally, this is one of my favorite theaters now post-renovation.

Correction? Is this theater is gonna be modernize by AMC

This whole emphasis on outrageous seating boggles the mind. Give me a clean environment, a good movie and reasonable prices. Do I really need a recliner to watch an hour and a half movie? Don’t even have one at home to watch TV.

Hello-

i saw Trumbo here yesterday. i greatly enjoyed the film but the theater is in complete disarray due to the renovations. it looks like Super Storm Sandy hit the theater.

also movie tickets are already wayyyyyyyyy to expensive. so by putting in the reclining seats each theater’s capacity is cut in half and the only the only they way can break even is by jacking up an already was to expensive movie ticket.

Thanks Brianhs, they are also doing the Bay Terrace renovations at the same time. I wonder if the Orpheum will get a redo as well?

@theatrefan, the new theater renovations and recliners are set to be finished by around February 2016, they were originally supposed to be done by around now.

Currently they are renovating 4 auditoriums and have 3 open, then once the 4 are finished they’ll open them and renovate the 3.

They keep advertising the new AMC reclining seats that are supposed to be installed here at other AMC Theatres, does anyone here know if they have finished yet?

This theater showed the original Star Wars in 1991 in association with the release of the Star Wars Nintendo game. My dad took me to the early morning screening and it was the first time I was able to see it on the big screen. It was definitely shown in a THX theater and the entire THX WOW! trailer was shown before the film. To date, it remains the best presentation I’ve ever seen of the film.

I like the LOEWS vertical on the corner of the building.

I was very happy with the management’s handling of my complaint. They assured me they would check all concession stock . I received 2 passes which I will use to check out the Empire 25 and the 34th street theatre.

I was at this theatre yesterday for the first time. Everything was OK except for one problem. The nachos are served in a tray with a resealable cover and seperate holders for the container(s) of cheese (this is very handy). I ate less than half and brought the box home with me. It was there I noticed “sell by May 19” on the box. I’m not so concerned about the chips but does this mean the cheese was also 3 weeks old? I will call the manager today…
