Hey Ctrain. The issue in 9 is that the dialog comes from the screen right channel rather than the center channel where it belongs.

The surround sound works well in theater 9

Issues in 2 and 4 have been addressed. Not, however, the sound problem in 9 that has been going on for 5 years now!

The window boxing issue in #1 has been resolved.

Theater one: scope movies window boxed on scope screen. No one knows how to expand the picture. Theater two: picture isn’t centered. Bare screen on left, picture projected onto masking on the right. Theater four: picture is dark with an out of focus spot right in the center. Theater nine: since summer of 2019!!!! Dialogue comes from right channel speaker behind the screen rather than from the center channel where it belongs. Notified multiple “managers” who are clueless. Called Regal corporate who seem not to care because these issues are ongoing.

A souvenir pamphlet distributed on the Midway’s grand opening night in September, 1942, was entitled “Intimate Facts About Myself,” and included the following: “I am what you would call modernistic– with all the latest wrinkles and gadgets. Here and now I want to give thanks to the late Thomas Lamb, one of the greatest of theatrical architects. In me, his last theatre, you will find the best example of his genius.”

Because Regal bought UA, and Regal never rebranded it under Regal, so they call it the Regal United Artists Midway. Regal still has many locations branded as Edwards or United Artists. Even though they put recliners in, they still call it UA.

Does anyone know why it was renamed Regal UA Midway?

And a bit off on the fringe was the Cinemart.

The area had in 1990s UA Midway Quad, UA Forest Hills Twin, Continental Twin, Continental 3 Theatre and the Loews Trylon Theatre.

While this is hopefully a panicked reaction, rumors are rife that the Midway will close even when the other theaters re-open. Except for the Cinemax, which is situated some distance away, this would reduce the number of movie houses in the Forest Hills commercial district to zero. When I first became acquainted with the area back in the 70’s. there were five separate movie houses serving the area.

One wonders how many theaters will survive the pandemic particularly since the trend to install recliners has severely cut the number of seats and any social distancing would reduce the number of customers so that operation would not be economically feasible.

RealD 3D in screens 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. But Regal shows less 3D shows then they use to. Also, they compete with the Cinemart Cinemas and AMC Fresh Meadows that has recliners.

Remember, a few years ago, The Midway, Cinemart and Kew Gardens play the same films now.

Also, the big money making theatres Union Square and Sheepshead Bay won’t get recliners anytime soon.

Do they have RPG or 3D showings so they can jack up prices?

To say nothing of the overpriced snacks.

Well, with weekday matinee prices starting at $11.55 and evening adult prices at $15.50 (for Queens Boulevard!) you don’t need to fill many seats to fill the till…

I don’t know how you make money with 585 seats. Seems crazy to me

I had posted a few photos a couple of years ago of the theatre when it was with the UA Midway prior to the renovation and a preview seats of the new recliners. Haven’t been there since 2017 when I use to live in Forest Hills.

@Confortably Cool

Yes, with recliners that sounds about right.
