Please please please…. change the cover photo for the theater. A lot of hard work went into making the facade beautiful again. To those that are unhappy that part of the floor was leveled out, I would ask you to consider that it has been made more accessible to EVERYONE. The seats that were in the theater when purchased in 2018 were NOT original to the theater, and some have been restored and look much nicer now!

I just uploaded pictures of the restoration. I also requested that the status be changed to “Restoring”. The theater will hopefully re-open this summer.
I passed by the theatre shortly after it was sold to the current owner. A small sign inside said will re-open as a multi venue site including movies. I again though about buying this theatre for a second time but the owner at that time asking price was to high. Although the theatre was used for car storage he had not leveled the floor and had retained all the seats.

Welcome to CT. I think whoever added this theatre wrote the historical piece. Not sure if it can be or should be changed though you certainly can add current information in your posts going forward.
The Park Theater in Avon has a new owner and vision. The Theater celebrates it’s 80th birthday on 7/30/18. It’s opening day was celebrated with a parade in the village in1938. The theater was one of the first in the Rochester area to have Air Conditioning. A Main St and restore NY grants have been secured. Restoration will begin soon.

Good news!
The Petition was closed online. An effort to gain signatures locally on paper is underway. A recent walk through has been done by Ann. She also has met with a county representative who works on Main street revitalization.

Would love to see vintage photos of this theatre at both locations in Avon. Did it ever have a vitrolite exterior of that era? Vitrolite were colored glass panels and the term can be found via a Google search.
Can anyone speak to the interior condition of the theater? Photos?

We have a facebook Page set-up and MJM has offered to work on a website for us. We had 20 people sign up at The Corn fest… one of which is an Architectual Professor at SUNY Alfred.

I’m an Avon resident. Paul Brown is spearheading an effort to set-up a Not-for-profit organization to purchase, restore and use the theater. He worked on the Smith Opera House project in Geneva, NY. He set-up in front of the Theater during the Avon Corn festival last weekend passing out info and having people sign up to help. The marquee had “Opening Soon” on it as well! A September meeting is going to be scheduled. Please e-mail me if you are interested in helping: The owner is working with Paul. He still has the seats and equipment.
MJM: Nice to know that you live in Avon and can give us updated reports. BTW, my email is if you wish to chat about the Park. In the meantime, I haven’t heard back from a former classmate about the theatre. It would be interesting to learn what happened to the seats. I know that the Hollywood Theatre in Gowanda NY is being restored and those seats are being redone by local prisoners or so the story goes.
I do actually live in Avon, and it caught my eye recently, I thought what a precious piece of history to save, if possible, for a small village like ours. I am a big fan of movies. I did some digging around town, and found out that it appears the owner of the theatre is still the antique car gentleman. I peeked in the windows and it looks a bit dusty and untouched. Someone told me they heard the seats have been removed from the theatre but didn’t know what happened to them, or where they might be. If I hear anything else I will update you. I would love to head up a non-profit movement to restore it to original condition. take care, MJM
MJM: The tragic, but historical part of the story for this theatre was included at the top of this link when this theatre was first posted by Richard Grow. Perhaps he will be able to give a current update and tell us that the theatre is again…a theatre.
MJM: The person who would probably be able to tell you about the current status of this theater is no longer a member so perhaps someone will post some continued information. I do have a former classmate who lives in Avon so she might be able to shed some light….stay tuned.
