Before Wometco took over from Loews it seems 167th, Kendall and Bay Harbor were running under a company called Gen-Star. This is around 1986. Anyone familiar with this company? Added pic in photos.
At some point Candler Road Minicinema was reopened as Sunshine Adult Cinema. Came across some ads poking around the Atlanta Constitution in 1983.
As you can see in the photo section, not particularly “adult” movies at times. Some other 1983 ads I saw indicated they played soft-core Something Weird style titles; EVIL COME, EVIL GO one that stood out in particular.
In the weeks after the ads posted they were running definite XXX titles, however these could have been soft versions as well. Unsure of what the laws were in DeKalb County concerning adult theaters and what they could get away with.
Added ad from Miami Herald 6/18/1976. Looks to have played straight adult films along with live stage shows at a point in its existence. While MOST VALUABLE CAT has the ring of Disney, I do believe it was code for something less family friendly.
One auditorium sat 800, the other 400. Closed on September 9th, 1990. 9/13/1990 Neighbors section of Miami Herald, NW edition on page 7 for info on closing.
Oaks 6 had a habit of playing adult films during the AMC Midnite Movie Express heyday of the early to mid-80’s. Unsure if these were soft or hard versions. Curious to know if they were XXX cuts. Hardcore at the mall? Only in the 80’s.
Not sure if I missed a mention going through the previous comments but according to Wikipedia, the theater scene in THE LAST DRAGON (1985) was filmed at the Victory.
The Golden Glades Drive-In closed on March 14, 1981. It’s final features were FROM NOON TILL THREE with THE STRANGER RETURNS and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE with POINT OF TERROR.
The America was up in running in 1983 according to an ad I found and the theater seemed to be owned by the same people who owned the Trianon and the Midway at the time.
