I was in there yesterday, this is a nice theatre, but Theatre is very dirty not maintained at all Management has alot to be desired,
it seemed the place had no managers on duty , staff was running wild
fooling around, talking to friends and the place was very dirty. Rave needs to have a Manager that is going to spend time developing
skills for there theatre and staffing, This is a simple theatre to run. it seems to be too hard for current management. Its run as a Play house. I could run it with my eyes closed , it would take someone sometime to clean it up , just being there would be the key.!
i loved this twin it was so damn busy when it had a hit I managed the fourplex in the mall and that was a nightmare . it was an old dark dirty dump, we opened at 9am when the mall opened and ran till 1am . all the hits moved over from the twin to the mall. I oversaw the twin Josephine was the manager she was green when it came to running the theatre. but a very hard working manager devoted to Untied artists.
This Theatre was never known as Serramonte Plaza, First it was ABC Plaza Twin, then it was PLITT ’s Plaza Twin, then it was Cineplex_odeon Plaza Twin, never was it called Serramonte Plaza Twin
This Drive was such a dump. I worked there for 2 weeks with a OLD lady she was training me. I left after I was shot at coming from the Box Office to the Snack Bar. very seedy crowd, and when the Cow palace had a show it was impossiable to get out of the Theatre lines of cars at a stand still. its good it been demolished.
I managed this theatre, it was very busy in it’s day . The theatres were small little dumps. When I managed it UA had given me card blanche to spend money on cleaning it up . in which I did , it seemed to get a better bookings after we spent money we always day and date with Hollywood Blvd. and the warner center. I was traveling from Northern California to SO. cal every week to manage this theatre
I had a great staff, and we did have Union projectionts at the time Old man Kemp and Bob Odom were the best, not to mention Agnes[neenee] was my asst Manager. Neil stoleberg was at warner center at the time . we had a great time giving our DM a bad time. and our leader Roy Evans was the protector of me. so It was a blast , those were the days. even though the area wasnt very good , it was a fun time in my life , after i was done there I moved to UA warner center
a was not as much fun there, the people were snoby.Hey i wonder if Two guys from Italy is still on the corner in Vally Plaza?? Tino was the owner what a hell of a nice guy!!!

iN ORDER to take down the marquee letters on the top you needed a boom truck. no regular marquee ladder was high enough to get to the top line. when i managed that theatre i had SF Neon come out and put up Bargain Matinees Daily Until 2 pm . All seats were 1.50 the theatre showed no tracies of the original single screen theatre It was completely gutted when they twinned it and covered the wall with red brick and ugly drapes red downstairs and gold up stairs. when you were watching a movie upstairs and there was a full house the balcony would sway with all of the weight.the only room upstairs that was orignal was the janitors closet and that was used for the market street security who patroled the Theatre.it had a desk and a window and the old janitors sink. Otherwise nothing showed the orignal theatre at all. not even the torazzo was gone replaced with ugly brown brick flooring. the entire lobby was slopped and when they use to flood the restrooms it looked like a big pond. the basement was even re done when they twinned it cement walls were built covering all enteries to differnet rooms that were originally there. I m sure as a single screen this was grand because the space was large.they even re constucted the staircase that lead to the twin. as a twin. it had great seating capicity theatre one 766 theatre two was 565, good size for a twin. for that era it was a nice performer.
lyndon, i dont know if you remember me I use to work for CinePlex in san francisco, where is Ron Faucett? how is your sister ? wheres Larry Oya? my email is here let me know if you know where they are Nice to see your the president of a Great Company Congrats!
I managed this dump ,for 6 months it was really a grind house it opened at 10 am and ran 1045pm shows in the evening, UA didn’t spend a dime on this place the twin was in the parking lot, my friend Josephine was the Manager of the twin, it was a lot nicer than the 4 plex in the mall and it had great sound and 70mm, it played all the big first run films and then they moved them to the mall after they were dead. Marsha Naify was the District Manager any one know where she is? still in Long Beach?
