advance tickets went on sale for Dunkirk in digital imax only. So far, no one has bought tickets yet but will sell fast soon…btw i think amc’s website is slow as mollasses so i always go to fandango for faster speed.

the theater will open in two weeks just in time for Dunkirk. Tickets for the movie in all formats go on sale Friday.

I saw Wonder Woman at theater #15 and when i came out of it after enjoying it i saw the blue christie packages. Can’t wait to try it out for the first time when the crowd dies down…it will be like when 3d first came to Rockaway as well as Imax digital.

I agree. Some people hate reserved seating since you can’t change your seat after the movie begins but it’s important for AMC’s business in the future. The imax has it, and dolby will have it. Yes, the projector is christie. Also recliners too. Ever since AMC returned to Rockaway it has overfilled the parking lot near the mall and is getting more visitors than the mall itself. Malls are dying, but movie theatres are thriving in an age of netflix and tv shows.

Just came out of Baby Driver. Great movie. People are busy at work building out the new Dolby Theater. Pallets were in the hallway and boxes from Christie were right outside. Must be the projector? Will be nice to have Reserved Seating. This theater is becoming overcrowded.

Went to see “Cars 3” in 3d in the auditorium right next to where they’re working on the Dolby Cinema at AMC. It’s moving along pretty good. As for the movie, it was properly framed somewhat and the audio was pretty normal. The 3d was fine. Not a lot of people at the screening yesterday. Ticket prices went up a bit to around $13 for regular, which is as expensive as it gets.

This theater suffered a major outage along with the rest of the area due to a malfunction in the power station in Wharton, NJ. Moviegoers got free passes when the theater was evacuated last Wednesday due to the power failure.

I heard from a friend of mine on fb he enjoyed the new Transformers movie in Imax 3d. 98 percent of the film was shot in digital imax 3d. To put that to perspective, the next two avengers movies next year and the year after that will be the first films to be shot fully in Imax 2d then converted into 3d. Dunkirk was shot in that format too, but was filmed using real film and not digital like avengers. Advance tickets for the 70mm version go on sale this friday. I highly doubt AMC in Rockaway will pay a lot of money to project the film on a screen that’s kinda small for that format. The AMC in Paramus did 70mm for Hateful Eight and did quite well.

According to a friend of mine who works at this theater, the Dolby cinema will open on July 15th, right around when War for the Planet of the Apes comes out. Pricing will be the same as IMAX, and there will be reserved seating and premium power recliners to go along with it alongside the 4k quality projection and immersive dolby atmos sound, which has become common on recent bluray releases in 4k.

Went to see Alien in the theater next to the imax and enjoyed it. Popcorn still tasted good. The bottom of the aspect ratio was a little cut off by the masking but that didn’t matter to the audience. Audio was good and immersive.

According to Dolby’s facebook page, they said that crew members are hard at work on the screen. I wonder if it will open in time for Alien or maybe other Dolby Cinema movies soon.

I went to see Guardians in 2d in one of the auditoriums that had a 3d dispenser for the glasses. The preshow was in the wrong aspect ratio but the feature was in the correct aspect ratio. As for the movie it was awesome and the visuals and audio were good. This movie will have legs. I went by theater #9 and they’re hard at work on the Dolby Cinema. There’s a sign that says coming soon dolby cinema at amc.

http://variety.com/2017/film/news/amc-entertainment-2-1202418948/ it seems that AMC is moving in the right direction as they are renovating more theaters at a rapid pace from now until 2018.

According to Fandango it hasn’t been. Dolby Cinema has its own Facebook page where you can hear the latest news on openings. AMC is its biggest customer right now at the rate they’re opening the dolby cinemas. It’s not as big as IMAX, but it’s growing.

Gotta be soon. Just noticed #9 has not shown any movies for the last couple of weeks.

Theater #9 will be the Prime auditorium according to a friend of mine who works at this theater.

@alpinedownhiller….i think reserved seating is coming according to fandango, which confirms that fact.

Me too…the only thing that will irk me is the reserved seating. When Dolby Cinema at Clifton Commons opened, they were putting in the letters and numbers for the reserved seating process to work. By the following weekend, that plan worked in effect. So far, advance sales for guardians in dolby at clifton have sold out already over the imax 3d version.

The real joy of Dolby Cinema is the color reproduction and sound. The opening trailer alone at Paramus got me hooked. Whether that was just marketing or whatnot, it worked. I can’t wait for it!

Those vibrating seats basically stick a giant ultra sub-woofer under every single seat. Total gimmick IMO. I sat in one in a non-DOlby theater and it was annoying at times and sometimes it kinda rattles your neck and head and it left my ears buzzing for a week.

As far the Dolby goes not sure how I feel about that either. Apparently they can’t legally put in a screen bigger than the IMAX so that doesn’t seem to give them much room to enlarge #16,#1,or #9 any so it seems like just a way to pay twice the ticket price you do for one of the three other largest screens just to get recliner seats (which also means way less seats and a much bigger rush on tickets at the big screens).

It sounds like it would be laser projection though which is great. OTOH it sounds like they might go for those vibro seats which I really do not like at all. Very distracting and sometimes uncomfortable IMO. I hope they give the vibro seats on-off buttons at least.

I think they might be going to assigned seating for the IMAX too. Not entirely sure how I feel about that.

All I know is I was in there for Ghost in the Shell and all the seats had numbers and the aisles had row letters. I could swear that stuff was never there before. For a second I was like did I somehow accidentally drive way out to Paramus instead of Rockaway? hah.

Also I was even more wrong about Rockaway having the largest or tied for largest regular digital IMAX in the region. Paramus one is definitely bigger (contrary to the way someone on that thread had described it) and I suspect the New Brunswick IMAX is bigger (although it’s not verified) and I think there might be one more as well, one that might be the largest of them all in far eastern NJ.

Guess the wiz bangs that run the equipment never heard of Lens adjust which is on every digital projector, or changing the xenon bulb that probably has a few thousand hours on it.
