Hmmm, something is wrong with the address on this theater, I wanted to photograph it yesterday, and this is the building I found at 150 Washington Ave in Brooklyn.
The building in the photo is definitely an older building than the 1950’s, and in no ways resembles a theater….something is wrong here!

Any further information would be appreciated.

It is still some sort of church (Plkeasant Grove), and the building survives.

Here is a photo I took of it yesterday:

Wow, the Slave was a theater? Geez, I can’t even imagine what kind of theater that must have been. I don’t imagine you would go see “101 Dalmations” or “Back to the Future” in a theater called “The Slave”!!

Here’s a photo of of the Regent taken yesterday. I don’t exactly know what the “Slave” was, but assume it must have been some sort of club or something.

The address of this theater is wrong. It is indeed at 167 Graham Ave, not 166. And it is at the intersection of Graham and Meserole.
I went by yesterday and got two photos of it:

Yeah, I did some research of my own yesterday, and yes, the building I posted a photo of was at Fayette and Bway.(By the way, it does look like it could have bee a theater, so if anyone knows anything about it, please let us know. It’s an interesting building).
Anyway, here is a photo of what is now on the site of the old Rogers Theater at the corner of Park and Bway, it is now a one story building housing a few stores:

Hmmm, I don’t know why the links didn’t work, they appeared okay in the preview.
Anyway, let’s try again:

Here’s a photo of the Williamsburg Theater taken yesterday. It still has a semi look of a theater, although as mentioned, it has been partitioned.

There is some ornamentation left too on the exterior trying to peak through.

Ahh, that makes more sense. It could also explain the “corner” misunderstanding above. As a new building, the 835 could be in the middle, while the corner has the 837 or higher address.

Now I am a bit confused, is the proper address of this theater 835 or 535? If it is 535, that would actully place it just west of the Lorimer St station.

Just for the record here, there have been some messages removed here. I wasn’t talking to myself above, so if you are reading, and my comments make no sense, well they don’t because the nasty messages by some poster in between my messages and lostmemory’s have been removed.
Thank you to the webmasters for “cleaning house”.

Robert, in reference to your comment above, that I never noticed, yes, I agree, I always looked at this building as a kid thinking it was a theater (it was Hamburg Savings at the time). I have a photo linked above also that I took last fall.

Here’s a photo I found on the web of the location of the Whitney.
http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?38215
The Minimart is located on Transit Authority property, and is the site of the platforms of the original Fresh Pond Rd station, before the el was built, and the train ran on the ground. The building to the right of that is where the Whitney Theater once stood. I don’t believe that is actually the Whitney theater, it is probably a replacement building built soon after closing of the Whitney, but not sure. The building is “Theater like”, and quite old, although it may have been a bank right from the beginning (it currently is Greenpoint Bank).

Orlando, I found a photo of when Woodhull hospital is being constructed, but unfortunately, that won’t help:
http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?2213

Anyway, that’s the earliest photo I could find of that station or location. I wonder if the building on the left of the skeleton of Woodhull could be the theater. As far as I know, that building with the eagle on top no longer exists, as it too is I believe parrt of theh Woodhull complex. Here is another angle of that building taken on the exact same day in April 1972, when the hospital was under construction. I of course have no idea if that is the Alba, it could also be a bank that was demolished:

Thank you webmasters for the house cleaning and removed messages. It is much appreciated, even if mine make no sense now with the missing ones.
Maybe now we can back to what we all enjoy here, talkinf about theaters.

Anyway as I was saying to everyone else, there appears to be a building at the corner of Park and Broadway at the Flushing Ave station that appears it could be the Rogers Theater. This building was photographed in 1960, and was gone by 1969. I have provided the links above.

Tripe is good if you like cow stomach. Some people find it quite tasty.

As for the Rogers photo. The building in the photo is at the corner of Park and Bway. Unless they had two theaters next to eachother, what else can this be?
Second, I did mention that I “believe” I have found a photo of the Roger theater. I didn’t say that THIS IS a photo of the Rogers.
Discussion can either prove it is, or that it isn’t. That is what discussion is about. I am not about to hinder discussion here as you would hope, and one day there could be someone that remembers the theater that will find this page and the photos linked and be able to positively say, “Yes that is the Rogers”, or “No, that’s whatever”. That is what discussion is about.
And Tom or Otto, whatever your name is, thanks for adding this theater so we can have this theater to discuss, and you have a nice day as rainy as it is outside.
See you at the movies.

I am going against what I said would be the last messgage I will post about this theater, but anyway….
The proof could one day come in the form of proof written in a reputible book or newspaper article, the city records are not necessary, and have been exhausted on this topic anyway. But I really don’t care either way if we ever find out….it’s not one of life’s great mysteries….

As for “Eddie” and “Tom”, neither of which are real names, they are both the same personn anyway. There is only one person manipulating here, not a group of them. His style of writing is the same in all the nonsense posts. For example, when “Otto” first appeared, he used his “formal” writing style, then sometimes he would write Otto in the “Eddie” style, as has been seen more recently. He does this for all his aliases.
I already believe I know which regular this “Tom” person is, but since I can’t prove it, I would not publish it (and of course I could be wrong, so I would never want to embarssas an innocent person). Although, I believe he already slipped up in some of his posts incriminating himself. But that’s fine, I don’t care as long as most of the time he posts valid information, which he does. It keeps it interesting. There’s just so much the same people can talk about the same theaters….so it’s all good.

Bway commented about Rogers Theatre on Mar 28, 2005 at 7:40 am

These listings are not always accurate. I believe it could have been a corner, even if it doesn’t say so on the city tax records. There are always mistakes in the records.
Anyway, I believe the theater was in fact located at the Flushing Ave station. The property was at the corner of Park Ave and Broadway, which is at the abandoned mezzanine end of the Flushing Ave station. The Flushing Ave station extends from Flusing Ave itself, east towards Myrtle, with the abandoned mezzanine near Park Street.
In fact, I believe I have found a photo of the Roger Theater taken in 1960. This building no longer exists at the Flusing Ave station, having been torn down many years ago.
Anyway, here’s a link to the photo of what I believe is the Rogers Theatre in 1960:

http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?6728
http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?24666

By 1969, when this photo linked below was taken, the Rogers Theater had been torn down. These photos below are taken from the exact same angle, in 1969 and 1970 respectively, and the building is gone:

http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?2175
http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?24666

The building was torn down sometime between 1960 and 1969.

Bway commented about Ridgewood Folly Theatre on Mar 28, 2005 at 7:13 am

In this case, I don’t agree. There is no doubt that the Ridgewood Folly existed. I have seen the photo posted by Bryan above in a few places, and of course in the Times Newsweekly Newspaper a few times. The controversy is not whether it existed, but rather where it existed in Ridgewood. At this point I need to see positive proof of where it existed (proof that may never come). I will not accept the fact as truth that the Ridgewood Folly and the Grand View are one in the same until I see written proof of it, from somewhere or someone other than a poster here that says so – the same person that then sometimes goes on to sign in here under a different screen name and then posts nonsense about making out with Mae West in a balcony, or the, pretending to be “SG Cogan and Sally” and then the messages he posted above in this thread under aliases, and all the other nonsense he posts here sometimes.

Furthermore, if that positive proof would come up that the Grand View and the Folly are one in the same (and it hasn’t other than this person saying so, someone who has lost all credibility by his various actions here), and then it should be the Grand View theater to be removed, not the Ridgewood Folly, but it’s too early to talk about whether either should be removed, as the proof that they are the same has not materialized.

That is all I will say about this theater or this situation, until the proof one day materializes, if ever.
