Somehow I don’t think the marquee is original, but the front facade above the marquee IS original……….looks like it needs a bit of pressure cleaning though. Do we have photos of the interior which according to the CT information given has been TRIPLEX!
Chuck1231: I would love to see a photo of this theatre as I wasn’t able to view it on the photobucket site. Hope College this in Holland MI so it’s a shame that the town doesn’t get behind this theatre and restore it for perhaps some of their functions.
The next time I’m in Buffalo and near Broadway I plan to check out this former theatre. I was near Broadway the other night enroute to the Shea’s to see Mamma Mia and thought about going then, but time didn’t allow for that theatre side trip! The intricate facade is still there though the marquee is long gone. BTW, I highly recommend seeing Mamma Mia as it is a wonderful musical storyline set to the music of Abba. And if you want to see and read about one of the very talented actors who plays “Sam Carmichael” go to www.seanallankrill.com
Wonderful photos of this theatre, but it’s a shame that many of these theatres changed their marquees which were designed in the 20’s and are in keeping with the interior decor.
Glad to read that this theatre has been restored and is back in operation since Katrina, but I’ve been wondering about N.O. theatres and any update on them?
Lost Memory: The ceiling photo is an excellent photo in that it captures the astronomy formations. My tour included having Mr. Welch take my husband to the organ chamber room where all of the sounds once originated from. The journey involved 2 sets of very steep stairs so I stayed behind while our digital took photos for me to see later.
Just viewed the 4/14/04 photos and the Yeadon was most definitely an art deco EBERSON! It is a shame that someone in the community with deep pockets couldn’t have stepped up the plate and saved this theatre as has been done in other small towns. Or a civic minded group of business people or an arts council or someone!
This theatre is an EBERSON and should never have been considered a demolition project. The Town of Butler PA lost their Eberson and now it, too, is gone forever!

EagleArtGallery: Thanks for the Gem update and I shall take a look-see at your website again though the site was slow in responding this a.m.
What is the status of this theatre? Anyone have photos of then and now?

Too bad that this Grand theatre is now a parking lot, but at least they have the Tennessee.
This is a must-do event for any theatre buff and especially for someone interested in the Schine Brothers and their historical connection to theatres.

Norelco: I plan to see this theatre, in person, mid November. Also a ‘still being used’ historical fire station near the Carisle Fairgrounds.
And what they did to that former park is an absolute crime!
Just viewed the Dec. 26th photo with glorious ceiling and couldn’t believe that this theatre/former church was TORN DOWN! Such a shame!
Thanks….will take a look-see.
I would love to see interior photos of this former theatre with 2700 seats!
Twistr54: I just viewed the many photos and didn’t see any of the atmospheric auditorium. Perhaps I missed them.
Twistr54: Thanks for the wonderful flickr.com site showcasing the State in Kalamazoo! If only the original vertical marquee were still in use!

The theatre facade in brick is very impressive when looking UP.

ken mc: Your flickr color photo posted on 2/4/06 was beautiful.
In the 1961 photo I’m sure the Woolworth store is long gone though the name brings back many wonderful memories.
ken mc: The 1947 interior photo was spectacular!

Or Century 21 in Lakewood NY. And this theatre would be the perfect location for a Lucy themed lobby.
