It’s just a shame that the Regent can’t be brought back as the brick building still stands today, but without the marquee and probably without any seats as the nearby Catholic church owns it now and uses it for storage according to a lady I spoke with last summer in one of the church offices. At the time I did’t meet with anyone who had THE KEYS so a return visit is on my theatre agenda, still.
I’m not a resident of Ohio nor of Canton and so the Palace being connected to the Eberson name and the interior being atmospheric did interest me. So last summer I went to see it for myself and I met with the manager of the theatre who is Cinema Treasures member, “CantonPalaceTech”. Rob may be able to help you with your research involving the other theatres that were in Canton as I believe they have all been demolished except for the Palace.
I don’t have much personal knowledge in regards to theatres in Canton or Ohio, in general, but do enjoy passing along information that I am told about or read about. My neighbors are from Youngstown and they have passed along information about another theatre with the Palace name that WAS in their town along with their memories of the former Paramount Theatre in Youngstown. That theatre is supposedly being considered for restoration, but time will tell.
The “losttulsa” link is fascinating and especially when I scrolled down far enough and found the Price Tower built by Frank Lloyd Wright article with photo. I have sent it to a fellow FLW fan as I know he will appreciate it.
The night photo of the Rose Theater is beautiful. I have neighbors whose daughter and family recently moved to Omaha so I will certainly tell them about the Rose and the Orpheum theatres. And the Rose has the Eberson connection!
ken mc: Wonderful photos of a beautifully built theatre with the Ringling name. I’ve tour the Ringling home in Sarasota FL and it is quite the estate on Tampa Bay.
If the interior was a combination of art deco/french renaissance, it would be great to see an interior photo(s). Hope that someone can provide a photo(s).
Life’s too short: If you are asking for the Mayor’s email, I assume you want to contact him regarding Milwaukee theatres. I think this is great so count me in to send any remarks that are deemed necessary! And to norelco: Are you in a band as you mentioned “supposed to play in that area real soon”?
ken mc: I’ve never visited Milwaukee though do know folks there and that the city has their annual Summerfest each June and that jazz singer, Al Jareau is from Milwaukee.
papibear: Great night photo with the lighted curved marquee and the big C above. My former hometown theatre had a curved marquee and they are so very unique.
Oh my! Then seating was drastically reduced by multiplexing if the number listed at the top of this link is 700 and you are posting 1,300! Oh my! This leads me to believe that probably alot of the theatre’s art deco intregity was loss which ,imo, is a shame.
Does anyone have more photos of this theatre? The marquee photo looks to be in good shape and certainly has the mark of a Warner marquee design. How much of the theatre’s art deco/Eberson touch is there present as one looks at the exterior and interior?
If you as a theatre lover, loves your multiplexed Warner then that is all that matters. The main thing is that the theatre was not demolished to make room for another unused parking lot in the name of urban renewal that has happened in so many communities across the country. And I agree….LONG LIVE THE WARNER and all other Warner Theatre as the name Warner equals film legacy!
It’s amazes me that the Regent having gone through a total fire loss and must have been rebuilt to be around in the 60’s for the youth of that era. The name Dalton Burgett must have been the father of the man I recently met. Dalton is an attorney and when I met him he told me that his father had owned the Wintergarden, the Capitol and the Regent years ago. He also told me that he didn’t have any memorabilia from any of those theatres. I thought to myself…what a shame. Thanks for the organ information, etc. as the Mr. Burgett that I met didn’t have much to tell me as he didn’t seem to have the interest.

I think the son was named Dalton and was the man I met who said his father once owned 3 theatres in Dunkirk. Dalton is an “ambulance chaser” attorney.

Sometimes the seating number changes when it has been multiplexed into more than the original ONE SCREEN!
And does it still hold 700 seats?

Paul: Thanks and it seems that Dunkirk had many theatres over the years so if only one could have survived the urban renewal era!
