Michael some people just like to stir up crap if for no other reason.
BTW I do believe that the Loews Kings has picked up a lot of momentum on CT lately since the news of the $70 million restoration project. Why can’t they use some of that money to help Ridgewood?
Mike: Read its landmark designation report, and try to acknowledge and understand the larger picture…

Hope this helps!

NOt that I will ever waste my time scrolling down on this theatre,But what the heck is so big about this place other than it being in New York and a lot of people live up there.Noticed a lot of off Topic conversation that had nothing to do with the Ridgewood,Something I was critized for by other CT members on my favorite theatre, but with some 3000 posts who really cares.
OK fred report to Lois Lane for a spanking.
CORRECTION my last post is untrue I heard the news through a second hand (maybe a 3rd hand) unrelible source in witch I find out it was wrong . I am ripping up my Jimmy Olsen Cub reporter card
I think the American in the Bronx. It was stupid of them to rip the walls apart in the downstairs.
Thanks, Fred.
What NYC theatres are managed by Bow Tie cinemas ?
Bow Tie cinemas
What major chain was that, fred ?
there was some interest of a major chain interested in saving this theater but the damages was too cost prohited
Thanks, John D. I agree.
I passed by the Ridgewood Theatre at about 10:30 a.m. today Monday August 30 2010. I observed no change since I last passed by on Friday July 9 2010.
Actually, I think only the Ziegfeld has more comments on CT.
I also believe that we have done a lot more on this page than just reminisce about the past. I am sure many of the “save the Ridgewood” petition signatures were generated as a result of the discussions on this page – and both Peter and I developed testimony for the Landmarks Commission public hearing that also reflected the discussion conducted here. These actions had, I certainly hope, a material role in at least safeguarding the theater’s facade. And the continuing discussion will hopefully play a role in rncouraging the future positive use of the Ridgewood. So this has hardly been an erercise in idle chatter – though, of course, there has been a lot of that as well.
I was just about to post the same thing. I believe they are Radio City and The Ziegfeld as well!
That’s good company for the Ridgewood Theatre to be in !
When I run out of things to post about the Ridgewood Theatre, I’ll continue writing my memoirs on the Bushwick Buddies website.
Name s/b the Ziegfeld. bad typing on my part!

Think the Ziegfield and Radio City Music Hall
larry2, which two theaters on CT have more comments than the Ridgewood ?
What will I do if / when the Ridgewood Theatre is demolished ? Continue to reminisce about it.
At least while this theater is still standing, there is something to blog about. What will all you guys do when the building comes down someday? i think this site has the third most comments of all the theaters.
You and me both, Bway.
That is exactly the point that doesn’t make sense in the Daily News article and why I seemingly “overreacted”. While we all know the Ridgewood was put together with bandaids near the end of it’s theater life, it still was completely operational. How does it turn into “shambles and nothing left” in just two years? THAT is what I find hard to believe. I totally understand that whatever goes into it needs to be profitable. However, to say that “it’s all gone and nothing is left” on the inside is utterly impossible, as it was still an operational theater just 2 years ago! Theaters that sat for decades still had “stuff left”, and while dire straights weren’t “in shambles”.
As I said, two things could have happened here, either the Daily News article exaggerated or took comments out of context", which is a possibility, or something underhanded is going on here. I hope it’s the former and not the latter.
“This just once again proves the points that it is a lot easier to win landmarks designation for the facade than it to turn the old building into a viable economic entity”
Good point, John Dereszewski. Thanks for posting it.
“– and that construction costs have really gone through the roof.”
Through the roof – pun intended ?
I, too, would like to know how the Ridgewood Theatre went from operational in March 2008 to a “shambles” and “nothing left” in August 2010.
Yes, I do too. My apology is only for attacking Paul Kerzner (as I don’t know what context it was taken in), however, my feeling that something is wrong here stands. I still don’t understand how a theater that was operational, just 2 years ago (although granted needing maitenance) can all of a sudden be in “shambles” and “nothing left”. SOMETHING is wrong with this whole thing.
Considering the style of the Daily News article, who can guarantee that the journalist has been inside the theater?
Thomas Lamb’s Adamesque architectural features were awaiting discovery, and the treasure was unveiled upon the removal of sheet rock and multi-plexing. Now, all of a sudden, it is in shambles. Ironic how it wasn’t that way in 2008 when the theater closed, for that sake. I smell a rat here.
