I would love to see a similar article – with the slide show and inteactive map – for other cities such as Chicago, Toronto, Detroit and others which clusters of theaters in downtowns.

No, the Briarwood Dollar Movies is in the Briarwood Mall, whereas this quad was in an old strip mall called Maplewood. BTW, the correct website for Teicher Theaters is http://www.teichertheaters.org

This theater should be identified as the Spartan 3, as it was a triplex in its last years, with Spartan Twin as an aka.

The theater was designed by Drew Eberson.

CSWalczak commented about Great Northern Theatre on Nov 11, 2009 at 12:33 am

The architect of this theater was quite possibly, if not definitely, Drew Eberson. The archive of his and his father’s work indicates he drew up plans for a theater at the Great Northern Shopping Center in 1965 for Stanley-Warner which was the original operator.

CSWalczak commented about Greentree 4 Theatre on Nov 11, 2009 at 12:26 am

Did you mean Drew EBERSON? The archive of his and his father’s work (which is part of the Wolfsonian Collection at Florida International University) shows that Drew Eberson designed a theater for Clarksville, IN in 1968. Does the Greentree 4 date back that far? It seems that Cinemark started operating it in the late 80s.

I am a frequent contributor to CT living in Saint Louis, MO I had posted the news item regarding the closing of the Greentree 10. Good luck on that venture!

Based on the “Psychomania” website, it seems that the haunted theater has been a seasonal event. Is the theater really being renovated?

CSWalczak commented about Marquis Theatre on Nov 9, 2009 at 7:52 pm

As it turns out, the condos are not going to be built on the Marquis theater site; instead it will be used to build a bus station/parking garage, and apparently a high school sports hall of fame will be part of it as well. A press release can be read here:View link

CSWalczak commented about Financing issues abort Muvico's multiplex in Chicago's Block 37 on Nov 8, 2009 at 12:07 am

Here’s another related story; according to the information here, the theater will open under Paragon management but under the Muvico name in 2010:

But given the history of the whole Block 37 project, the current financial snarl, and the economy in general, I am more than a tad skeptical.
