Thanks RetteH. I was getting facts from old newspapers.I assume your a local and was able to flesh out the history. Thanks,Any other Spantanburg Theatres I added please check them to see if anything needs to be added or dropped.
Could it have been called the West Ranch Drive-in in 1956,That Drive-in however parked 350.Unless it was a typo. Anyways Jan.8.1970 has the Rebel Drive-in playing “MIDNIGHT COWBOY” and “NUMBER ONE”.
You really gotta love theatre managers. On the ad for the sci-fi movie “MAROONED” it states “HAS THE DAZZLING OUTER SPACE EFFECTS OF 2001,BUT WITH A STORY”. WHAT! I hope Nick doesn’t read this. “MAROONED” was a decent flick, but the manager sure did not like 2001. Love these old ads. oh,the second feature was “TIME FOR A KILLING”.

the Middlesboro paper is ruuning one of those Monster ads you would love to have it you had a printer! At the MANRING THEATRE, LIVE ON STAGE"DRACULA".the Horror movie was “HOUSE OF THE LIVING DEAD” and folks would see,and I ain’t making this up,April 2 1957, THE MATERIALIZATION of JAMES DEAN! after all of this the second feature was “ABBOTT And COSTELLO MEET THE MUMMY”.I pity these kids coming up today with no movie ads,but most of the current crop of films aren’t worth watching.
Date of note. “FRENZY” opens and instead of promoting a Hitchcock film the Plaza has plastered on the ad on Sept.3 1972. “AUTOMATIC PROJECTION EQUIPMENT”.Can’t make this up.I worked for a lot of theatres we never promoted the booth.
Jan2 1970 and the Altus Drive-in is playing “WILD RACERS” and “ROAD HUSTLERS”.
April 9 1971 sees “OUT OF IT” playing with “SECRET OF SANTA VITTORIA”
Sept. 3 1972 sees a 007 Double feature, they ran the ad from “DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER”,but cut out “DIAMONDS” but anyone looking at it would think “hey,Diamonds are Forever is showing tonight at the ALtus”.What they should have done if they were going to use the “DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER” newspaper ad was cut the background out and just use Connery and and the two girls, still a 007 fan would know. I guess I was in the theatre business too long.Probably no one would have noticed or cared. Oh,the two Bond movies were"FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE" and"GOLDFINGER".Way to go ALTUS DRIVE-In.
The Skyway drive-in had a good way of getting good films and not having to run X rated films.Right up to the end the Skyway was running good movies.Oh it had a few Drive-in type films like on Dec.9 1972 they were playing “BONNIE’S KIDS” and “THE HITCHHIKER” but most of the time it would be like on Nov.2 1974 “SERPICO” and “PLAY IT AGAIN SAM” July 1 1980 and the SKYWAY had “CHINA SYNDRONE” and “AND JUCTICE FOR ALL” with “THE NUDE BOMB” and “RUNNING” coming. On Halloween and other special nights they often treated moviegoers to free coffee and Doughnuts.
Good Luck.
