Don’t forget the too-much-loud surround sound and the blurry projection, which sometimes happens mostly at my AMC in Rockaway. 3-D won’t even help the studios try to come up with something fresh, although Avatar is just a piece of the pie.
Hollywood today isn’t like the old Hollywood of past that you can see on TCM and AMC…it’s more focused on special effects, loud soundtracks, and big budgets rather than character and storytelling.
You’re right. As we speak, slowly the number of theaters gearing up for 3-D, old and new, are growing for the demand for this format, which can’t be reproduced at home just yet. Until they come up with something rather than the plain red and blu glasses, moviegoers will jam the theaters paying high dollar for three-dimensional entertainment.
I used IMDB for the schedule, and X-Games was on the list. Most of the moviegoers who frequent this theater are young and affluent, so they would welcome watching this kinda stuff. This isn’t the first time an X-Games was made into a movie, it was released before as an IMAX 2D movie called “Extreme X”, which did ok.
this weekend the hurt locker is playing…hopefully it does decent business as other movies based on terrorism bombed with the exception of Body of Lies, which had a decent crowd. I plan on seeing Harry Potter either tomorrow or Thursday and will come back with how the presentation went. Can’t wait for the 3D too.
plan 9 from outer space with rifftrax is playing at this theater in a few weeks, as well as more ncm fathom events and the usual hollywood fare; im upset that not a lot of good indie and foreign films haven’t done well this year as opposed to a few years ago, when juno, pan’s labyrinth, and slumdog did moderate business.
I hope they install the digital projector so that they can show footage of the new Avatar movie on Avatar Day, which is August 21st. This is one week before the new Final Destination 3D movie. It will also be shown in 2D.
Has THX visited this theater? if they did, then they would complain about the false alarms and blurry projection but rave about the loud and clear surround sound as well as the soundproofing.
I saw it after midnight, during a late matinee show, in DLP digital projection at the Clearview in Mansfield rather than the AMC in Rockaway, which was probably crowded at the time. This is because I stayed over at my dad’s for that weekend. The movie wasn’t all crowded, and I sat throughout the whole movie without going to the restroom. It was enjoyable and the film was worth seeing. Today, according to what people say on Twitter, Gary Oldman says that shooting of the new Batman movie will start next year. I can’t wait for that….it’ll be too bad that the Joker won’t be around.
Yeah, I haven’t been to Parsippany in more than three years since Rockaway opened. One reason is the lack of stadium seating, which this theater has, and also no cheap morning showtimes before noon, which AMC uses now everyday.
Looks like G-Force won’t be in 3d this weekend. It’s on one screen with Close Captions and Descriptive video, and on one screen as well. Seems that Rockaway is falling behind in the times when it comes to the latest in technological wonder. Seems that AMC needs to learn a lesson from its two sister theaters in North Jersey (both 16 screeners with a total of 3 3-D screens) and get those 3-D projectors now!!!
Checking movietickets.com for any friday showtimes for G-Force….they’ll probably put it up later in the day or tomorrow while the 3-D equipment is being installed. At this theater, several posters advertise some films to be shown in 3D, such as Xmas Carol, Final Destination, and others. But no avatar poster…hopefully the presentation by Cameron to the big wigs that own the cinema chains will know what will come to their theaters come December 18th!!!
just what Paramus needs…a fake IMAX screen when there’s a Domed IMAX screen to the south of town, an IMAX theater to the east of town, and one up north.
At the mall near this theater, one of the actors from “Harry Potter 6” was at the Hot Topic store, a few days before the movie came out. Have things improved at this theater since it opened?

THis is old news.

The first 3D movie to be shown at this theater will be X-Games 3D: The Movie, which will play for one week only before The Final Destination opens.
one auditorium is good enough. it will be like clifton commons without the thx branding.
came back from harry potter 6 and presentation was good.
boo
cool. will all 16 screens be upgraded that weekend?

Maybe I’ll repost this on its 5th anniversary.
I agree with your comment, CConnoly1.

Do they still use those large screen TVs in the lobby near the box office counters as well as the lights on the ceiling?
This building should be quarantined by Paramus.
