Sounds cool Patsy..Hope you have an enjoyable time in “my neck of the woods”. The Carlisle has a really cool marquee, it looks really neat when lit at night.
Patsy…What brings you to Central Pennsylvania? I live just outside of Harrisburg and have been to both the Carlisle and the Majestic theaters. The last time I was at the Mejestic was when RC theatres ran it and it was a triplex. From photos that I have seen the old girl looks great.
DennisZ: I would enjoy perusing your scrapbook. Maybe after Thanksgiving we can get together. I live outside of Harrisburg in Camp Hill. Would really like to talk with you in person. Thanks again Dennis
Dennis…I just finished reading the Friends Of The Boyd update. I looked at the new pictures of the exterior. Howard said the pictures were courtesy of a Dennis Zimmerman. You wouldn’t the Dennis Zimmerman would you? If so the pictures are great. If you are the Dennis Zimmerman would you happen to have pictures of the theaters in Lancaster County?
Dennis..let me jog your memory..do you remember in the lower area of the Park City Mall there use to be a radio station an ice skating rink and bumper cars. I can’t remember the year. I spend 2 weeks with my aunt and uncle in Lancaster one summer in the early 70’s
longisland does have some great ideas. You might want to contact Richard Wolfe at the Roxy theater in Northampton Pa. He is a very successful operator.
Dennis…thanks for the update. I was unaware that there ever was a theater in Park City. Was it inside the Mall or on an out parcel? I never understood why after AMc closed the Wonderland and the Eden theaters why no one has ever built a theater til now.
I live in Central Pennsylvania and Regal had a 6 screen here in a shopping mall. They had a month to month lease with the mall until the mall decided to turn the theater into a food court. What I don’t understand while Regal and the owner don’t enter into a month to month until the owner has the paper work completed. Seems he not much of a business man
Dennis..wasn’t the last theater to go was the Pacific5 on Queen Street. United Artist had that one. Never been there. Wanted to go but they tore that down for a new mass transit bus station I believe. BTW how is that new 10 screen (?) their building off of 501 coming along?
ElCentroGrad…I do believe I seen that film. It was early one Saturday morning and I couldn’t sleep so I turned on TCM. If it the film that I am thinking of, it had to do with the admission tax and it seemed the theater owner was taxed on just about anything and everything someone could think of. There was even a tax on signage. How may I get a copy of that film?
The Blair is owned by the Holliday Entertainment Corp. They also on the Miller 6 cinemas in Lewistown Pa. along with the Gateway Cinema Center in Edwardsville Pa. If the Blair is anything like the Miller or Gateway theaters, they Sucked the money right out of it and didn’t put a dime back in. I am wrong, the Miller theater finally got some much needed upgrades.
Schmadrian….I have read some other writing by Edward Jay Epstein. This guy is good, really good. What do you suppose he means by “house allowance” any idea?
Longisland question for you. I know that you have been in the exhibition business for a long time. Every Monday in my local paper and on the morning news that have the top ten grossing movies of the weekend which is fine and dandy. My question to you is, How many tickets are sold in the country on a weekend? Do you have any idea or do you know where to go to find out?
Hello Mike, John Messick here. I have visited this theater several times. I have relatives that live in Georgetown, which is just right up the road. Several years ago the Clayton got new owners who upgraded the marquee and paved the tiny parking area. Usually during the summer the place is packed with people every night. The street is lined with cars on either side. The theater does need some improvements inside, seating and wall coverings and of course the ceiling. Were you vacationing at the shore? Would you believe up until a few years ago the Clayton still had the original carbon arc projectors! And it is the only single screen in “Slower Lower Delaware”.
I have been to the Gateway Cinema Center in Edwardsville several times. The trouble I see with it is it was never upgrade/ remodeled. The Mens restroom had tile coming off the wall. It really needed upgrades and the addition of several mores screens

PeterApruzzese: Do you have any pictures of the interior of the Lafayette? Would really like to see some of the lobby and auditorium.

DennisZ: Any pics or info on the Joy theater in Mount Joy? Been past it many a times. I like the exterior of it.

Lost..Thanks for that picture of the Malek…What ashame for the exterior…but what a beautiful exterior.
So what is the going rate for a DVD? I see the movies I want to see in the theater, so I have never bought one.
Will you post any of the photos. I and I think many others would like to see them.

I read where Flagship theaters filed a lawsuit against Century theaters over unfair booking practices. Wonder how that will play out.
