I just saw the movie Chicago with Catherine Zeta-Jones Douglas and near the end of the movie the theatre’s exterior at night is shown with its great vertical marquee and curved window.

Why were these lovely embellishments removed?

The entire front facade seems to have been changed over the years and I wonder what happened to the Big STATE vertical sign?

Also the top design that is now missing as this was an Eberson/atmospheric cinema in a rather small Michigan town.

Thanks for the Case link, but it always disappoints me when I see the marquee changed over the years from the original one.

Life’s too short: I, too, just rec’d this important notice and urge anyone who can attend this meeting to do so if they have any concerns and hopes for the future of the Raymond Theate in Pasadena California! I looked on Mapquest and the location of the meeting to the Raymond Theatre is less than a mile if anyone going to the meeting wishes to see where the Raymond Theatre is located in town. They are both close to N. Colorado Blvd. which is famous for the annual Rose Parade. The Grand Marshall this year is Sandra Day O'Connor.

There is a big difference between the word renovation and restoration! After a costly renovation in 1997 I wonder why the current owner decided to keep it or change the interior to a twinned cinema when the original was a single screen venue? If it had been a restoration project, perhaps it would be a single venue today.

Alot of time has elapsed from 1999 to 2005…time enough for much deterioration to occur due to the natural elements and due to man!

The mural of the woman is very unusual. Where was it located in the lobby as I didn’t see it in the before photos to compare?

When was the last time the Trylon looked to still be in fairly good condition compared to now?

My hometown theatre had a curved marquee just like the Trylon. It was demolished in the early 90’s and now it’s gone forever…don’t let this happen to the Trylon!

Does anyone have photos of this theatre?

Life’s too short: Thanks for doing this as Gina and her committee are working around the clock to save this theatre built by Henry Jensen. If you haven’t visited the official website, do so as it is very well done.

Chuck1231: Thanks for posting the ‘agilitynut’ photos this past September. This theatre certainly has a beautiful facade and is worth saving!

ghamilton: Can the Times-Dispatch article be posted here? What is going on with this theatre which is an Eberson atmospheric!!!!!

Life’s too short: What’s the latest with this Eberson/atmospheric theatre in Richmond VA? I agree…..how does the situation go from a 2 year renovation to a large scale demolition in what seems, overnight? Someone needs to sit down with the Mayor of Richmond!

Chuck: Please email your photos of the Boulder Theatre as I just received word from a fellow Lucy Festival volunteer that Desi Arnaz, Jr. purchased this theatre so now I’m very interested to learn more!

I have gone on the Raymond Theatre website and contacted the Mayor of Pasadena and all of the City Council members via their personal emails asking them to support the preservation of the Raymond Theatre and I hope anyone reading this will do the same ASAP!

I wonder if this theatre had an organ in its heyday? It’s a shame that the elaborate interior of a major movie theatre in Pittsburgh PA was gutted and turned into a 2 story shopping center thus the name Warner Center!

Patsy
Patsy commented about Warner Theatre on Oct 17, 2005 at 11:14 am

If anyone can contribute exterior and interior photos of the Warner, please do so. The Warner Theatre in Erie PA is beautiful and worth a visit as it has never closed since it first opened!

Patsy commented about Butler Theatre on Oct 17, 2005 at 11:02 am

I wonder how many Eberson theatres were art deco as many of them were atmospheric in style?

Patsy
Patsy commented about Penn Cinemas on Oct 17, 2005 at 11:01 am

I clicked on the name, James E. Casale and he is listed as having only built the Penn Cinema. If anyone has further information on this architect, please post and the Penn is not closed as listed above.

The Penn and the Butler were different theatres…the Penn remains, but the Butler is gone.
