If I had only a penny for each corn I poppped I would be a very rich guy right now.Oh,the stories of popping popcorn only to get pissed when they came an grabbbed a large bag for the concession.Never could get ahead on a busy weekend. On “JAWS” we hired one guy just to pop popcorn for quite a few weeks.
Right after it closed I made a trip to the Thunderbird,Went through the Booth and concession.Projectors were gone and paper was tossed all over the inside, looked like snow. John Mackey a former ABC Plitt theatre manger took me there.I think he said when it closed it was an ABC Southeastern Theatre.Took some pictures, snagged about four car speakers.Later on he gave me a 8 by 10 black and white still of the marquee. “JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SUN” was the main feature.Have to find the picture to see what the second hit was.Glad Mark got this one CT.
Please Fix the Marquee.Didn’t the manager notice it when he opened up,what about the projectionist that came from across the street with a chili dog in his hand. What about the candy girl.Theatres I managed that would not happen cause most of the time 99% i would grab the ladder and fix it.Heck,I did it one time off the clock.

Thanks to projectionist Bill Barkley for saving this sheet there you have the last films and a added bonus I don’t think any theatre has,The Last coming attractions.
Yep. We kept the balcony closed for same reasons until a big movie. The balcony at the Imperial was were James Brown like to sit and we always let him.I drank a Bud with him one night watchinG"ESCAPE to ALcatraz" after I had checked out. Some times some other activities would go on in our Balcony with employees.Oh,the theatre business.
I really would like to compile all the features here from the 60’s to closing in the 80’s,but i just don’t have that kind of time.I have seen some on CT that are impressive with the list of films, some i had forgotten about. One day I do want to list them.thanks.
National hills was the last theatre to play “SONG OF THE SOUTH” Mr.Pete the old projectionist said the line was the longest he had ever seen at this shopping center theatre. It left Augusta and it was gone.Re-release.
Thanks for the classic ad.Don’t see them anymore in Friday’s paper.
Thanks Tlsloews.
I have a book by Davis Cone, got to meet him.He grew up in my hometown and put THE MILLER and IMPERIAL in his book.
Thanks for some wonderful photos.
Very nice looking Theatre the kind we really miss and will never see again.
Weis had screens in several of Georgia’s larger cities. Most crackerjack boxes.
Thanks for all the pictures.
What crying Shame.Small towns and even larger cities just do not have the funds anymore to save these theatres.
Any updates?

I have a photo of this and quite alot, but no way to get them on,Nick was doing them, but i have no idea what happened to him.
Be great to get a copy of that.
I think this is most beautiful theatre I bet one of Nashville’s finest. And some talent with a marquee.

Looks like it says “OPEN” on the marquee in 1982 picture.
I met Mr.Cline several times at Film Conventions and believe me he really loved the old one screen downtown Theatres.
Good name for it.
