I’ve also heard of a 28th Street Drive-in in Tampa, not to be confused with the 28th Street in St. Petersburg. Of course, my source could’ve confused 28th Street with 38th Street. I cannot find anything on a Tampa 28th Street, but I have found miniscule bits of information on the East Buffalo/38th Street Drive-in.
Operated by Floyd Theaters. The mall is located at 617 US 17/92.
The address I found for the Park Cinema is 4110 Park Boulevard, which is more or less across the street. A Home Depot is at that location now.
I didn’t know this theater existed until I started doing some research. I’m not currently in the area, either, and certainly not in Plant City.
It’s very likely. That’s definitely the address.
Not sure. I only found the theater by going through the American Classic Images database.
Thanks for that correction. I’ll try and check this place out in the next couple of months.
Yep, that’s the place. I’ll get down there this summer and check it out.
In 1981.
In 1981.
In 1978.
In 1981.
I added a few of those recently.
All of those theaters closed around 2001, plus or minus a few years.
Horizon Park was a men’s clothing store for awhile. I think that closed.
Twin Bays was demolished and a Lowe’s is on the site.
Mission Bell was demolished and I think a Home Depot is there now.
I held off on adding the Varsity until I got a picture, but it’s still there, just abandoned. That whole plaza is a flea market.

It was listed in the St. Petersburg Times in 1963, if that helps.
I’m guessing the theater was on the right side of the plaza, in the courtyard past the Publix and TG&Y. I don’t think there are any visible remnants.
Site now appears to be used as a storage facility.
This was replaced by either a shopping center or mobile home park.
Thanks. I was most likely going to be in the Quincy area tomorrow and thought I would try and check them out. I’ll poke around downtown, I guess.
Joe, do you have any more information on the Shaw, Roxy, and drive-in? I can’t seem to find anything.
