Too bad Spidey 3 isn’t showing in DLP in Succasunna since Meet the Robinsons is still playing in the digital auditorium (which I guess is located in the same screen where the RWC system was installed), letting the webslinger play only in good old 35mm film.
Recently, digital projection has come to two of the busiest theaters in Morris County, one in Succasunna and one in Parsippany. The 3-D version of Meet the Robinsons was the first digital movie that those theaters projected when it debuted in late March. After more than a month in release, the Disney movie is still playing in 3-D only in Succasunna, while Parsippany is showing Spider-Man 3 in 2-D on its digital screen. How is the presentation there compared with Rockaway, which doesn’t have digital projection at all save for the preshow? I know it’s a bit farther than Rockaway and that there’s no stadium seating at the Clearview theater, but is it worth the money?
Even though Cablevision will go private, it will still operate Radio City, as well as the Beacon Theater and the profitable MSG and Clearview Cinema chain. Quite a few around the metro area have been getting digital projection and are still keeping the equipment. I’m sure Radio City has a DLP projector; it’s been awhile since a major movie got a gala premiere at the Hall (the last I can recall is “The Lion King”)…most movie premieres in NYC usually debut at the smaller Ziegfeld (also owned by CV) or the more popular AMC Loews Lincoln Square theater. Too bad Times Square doesn’t get a fair share of movie premieres as much as those in Hollywood.
Was the theater packed when “Spidey 3” came out? The previous two played at the theater to big crowds, as well as dozens of superhero films since the days of Superman and Batman.
When the new theater opens, how many of the 16 screens will the new Pirates movie open on? I guess maybe four or five, given the demand for the movie!!!
Went to see “Blades of Glory” (which shoeshoe 14 saw exactly a month ago) in theater #7 (the same auditorium where I saw the X-Men’s third adventure), and it was not packed since I went on opening day of that new Spiderman movie, which has broken records. This theater still does well, even with a much smaller parking space than that of Parsippany or the larger Rockaway theater owned by AMC, which is now a public company as opposed to what the parent company of Clearview is becoming (privately owned by the Dolans). Spider-Man 3 is currently playing on three screens (the large #5 as well as the two new auditoriums, #9 and #10, all of which were sold out when Spiderman 3 opened yesterday), which makes up for 30% of the screen count at this theater.
How long will “Meet the Robinsons” play in 3-D in Succasunna? And how does Digital 3-D do at a small theater like Succasunna, and which screen number is it on? Must be one of the new ones they constructed. What about the old movies (Classics)?
According to movietickets.com, Spider-Man 3 will be playing on five screens (including one with open captions); hopefully they are on the two big and two second biggest screens in the complex. As for ticket sales, I noticed that the shows haven’t been sold out as of today. That will change come opening weekend, when Spider-Man returns to Rockaway after five years. The only other new movie playing there, Lucky You, is only playing on one screen and will bomb at the box office despite having Drew Barrymore in her second movie of the year (her last film, “Music and Lyrics”, did so-so at the theater and will find new life on DVD). So far, two Drew Barrymore movies have been playing at this theater; the last movie she was in that played in Rockaway was “Riding in Cars With Boys”.
Just got an email from Clearview Cinemas saying that tonight they’re showing one of the Ranger playoff games tonight at the Ziegfeld in HD one week before Spider-Man comes to the theater next week. Too bad I won’t make it tonight since I’m more of a Devils fan than a Rangers one. This is a good example of synergy since Cablevision is sponsoring it exclusively at the theater to attract a crowd who doesn’t want to travel a long way to the HSBC Arena to watch the game the way it was meant to be seen!!! The feed will come from MSG HD on a screen that’s bigger than most HDTVs!!! Is this the first time a sporting event has been shown at the Ziegfeld?
Thanks for the info. I think that movie will play on the smaller screens while Spider-Man plays on the bigger screens. When the new theater opens, which movies will be shown digitally?
Hopefully when the new movie theater opens next to the mall, the old standalone building, now infected with quarantine and bugs, should be razed to make room for additional parking or maybe, in my idea, turn it into an Imax theater like the Palisades Center did but this time it’s a separate theater rather than an indoor one.
Sounds interesting…a former Philly manager moving on up to be a New Yorker manager. Will there be any celebs besides Codey? I’d like to see some Jersey celebs (like those stars from “The Sopranos”) as well as the locals who represent the state as well as the town. As for the Garden State 16 being all-digital, does that mean that ticket prices will be more expensive than the Rockaway location? The Rockaway is the most expensive AMC in North Jersey, followed by Clifton Commons and Jersey Gardens. When that theater opens, post the new theater online and change the status of this one to Closed.
When the new theater opens, the governor of New Jersey will attend the event (probably Codey if Corzine still recovers from that horrific crash) as well as local town officials. Besides the new 16-screen monster of a theater, there will be a new restaurant as well as a few new stores just in time for the 50th anniversary of the largest shopping center in New Jersey, Garden State Plaza.
It seems that the AMC in East Hanover is showing its age these days after the parent company’s Rockaway theater opened. As a result, both Rockaway and East Hanover show all of their films in Dolby Digital rather than SDDS, which was installed in some of the bigger auditoriums at the East Hanover location when the sound system was in its infancy (currently the Parsippany theater owned by rival Clearview has SDDS in theater #1). As for the theater’s close proximity to the Nabisco plant, deliveries of snacks made by the snack food giant are faster to get to the theater than other theaters in Morris County. Finally, I hope the recent flood didn’t fill the parking lot near the theater!!!
Thanks for changing the title of the theater!!! I was confused when it said Rockaway 10. It was a twelve-plex, not a tenplex like the soon to be extinct Route 4 theater. From what I read on sites related to 70mm presentations, both theaters in and out of the mall were not 70mm, just 35mm with Dolby Stereo, which later went to Dolby Digital as well as other sound formats, including the Surround EX that’s used in all the auditoriums at the old theater’s successor. Back in the day, the old theater used to have twilight shows, which made the theater one of the most popular in Morris County until Parsippany and East Hanover came in with their own movie plexes. The only movie I saw there was “Exit Wounds” in theater 5 with digital surround sound and an analog pre-show.
currently this theatre is closed for renovations..when will it reopen?

Someone should edit this theater to demolished.
Was theater #1 the most popular of all the 10 screens at the tenplex?
Was the theater packed when “Spidey 3” came out? The previous two played at the theater to big crowds, as well as dozens of superhero films since the days of Superman and Batman.
how about jedi and future installments?
Digital, according to Movietickets.com.

same could be said for the tenplex when the new theatre opens in three weeks.

I agree with you, Paul. What was the best “Star Wars” film in terms of crowds and presentation at the Tenplex?
When the new movie theater opens, will it be open on days when the malls are closed due to the blue laws?
thanks for that info. Which movie was the most profitable at the theater and which movie stayed the longest?
