I think “SHAFT IN AFRICA” was the third in the Richard Roundtree series,“SHAFT’S BIG SCORE ” was the second.I worked a downtown movie Theatre IMPERIAL in Augusta,Ga.I know my black movies unfortunately.But like Tlsloews said it was a good time to work a movie theatre.And a good piece to read.
All the info I had came from a 1956 motion Picture almamac,wish i had more.Might be able to Archive it with the Columbus newspaper and look at the old theatre ads.
Now Showing Midnight movies with 96 Rock,Oct 15 1988, “ROCKY HORROR” “THE WALL” “M-3D:THE MOVIE” and “BEETLEJUICE”{a very weak selection for a midnight movie.However,at that time GCC was bleeding talent that could pick Late Shows,you would have never seen me book a"KID" film for the midnight crowd}
96 Rock PURE ROCKn'ROLL MIDNIGHT MOVIES at Akers Mill were on Oct 15 1988, “ROCKY HORROR”, “BEETLEJUICE” {weak midnight movie selecion,starting to lose managers like me that knew midnight movie crowds} also “M-3D:THE MOVIE”.
Does It really matter,go on a slow night and watch a movie.The people that think these questions up are the same folks that would bug me on Thursday night when i was doing inventory.Be a theatre manager for one day and LEAVE ME ALONE!
Thanks JuliaG. Harlem,Ga. Home of Oliver Hardy,think they might have changed the name to HARDY THEATRE when they redid the old COLUMBIA THEATRE marquee,named after the county the theatre is in.
I found a member named Fredrick,he has a page on Old Movie ads you might want to see underVintage movie ads I think.It is on my page on CT. Great ads he has on from the 70’s!
Enjoyed the story.I guess one of the resons i decided to get a job and stay 7 years in the business was the one-sheets and color 8 by 10 stills we got. As a doorman it wasn’t long before the “paper” was going home with me,up til then i was told most of it went in the Dumpster,So I saved just about everything except Disney,and I have a few of those.Was able to get a good collection of 007 and Clint Eastwood.Worth Thousands of Dollars I know,but I never got them to sell.The one sheets today really are nothing like what you and i have.For one thing the things are smaller won’t even fit in my poster frames I have taken from old closed up theatres and Drive-ins!
What I never could figure out,and i was a manager,but pro-union is why producers and directors would use union labor to make a movie then turn it over to a 17 year old to present to moviegoers.I wish someone that knows much more Than I do,please explain?

MY GCC manager’s dark blue coat would be called RAGTAG right now.Wonder if they would want to display it.
“ZELIG” a theatre Woody Allen would like.

I think it looked just like my theatre here and like the Cedar Bluff in Knoxville.All three ABC theatres opening about the same time.
Can’t believe this theatre opened with two musicals in each theatre,Stupid booking or either you folks up there like musicals!
