Best I can do not being from Hotlanta is this was a four plex at one time owned by UA,when they were buying theatres like there was no tommorrow, only to dump them on Regal. It was located in South Dekalb Mall.Four movies showing there March 28 1988 were:
“MOVING” rated R
“MASQUERADE” rated R
“POLICE ACADEMY V” rated PG
“SCHOOL DAZE” rated R
“suspension” another Anderson made up term.?How do you get suspended and collect unemployment.Things must have been different in those days.I am sure Stan in Atlanta will be able to add a lot to this theatre.
Robin, you might have something on this.Did you manage it when Mr.Anderson was City Managers,oh he called female managers,Supervisors,It was a man thing with him?
Bill had all his lobby cards stolen, and 8 by 10 stills, but the picture you gave him he has it.Wanted you know. Not a nice Summer for two theatre folks from National Hills,Robin and Bill.
Projectionist,Bill Barkley said the Carolina and Marrh Theatres are the same.I sorta thought they might be.Here is Bill’s Quote:“The Marrh Theatre was rented by Bubba Farr a projectionist with local 518 in Augusta. The owner would not let him use the Marrh Name, hence,he changed it to the CAROLINA.The theatre was a work of art on each aisle there was a oversize seat for couples to use to sit close to each other during the movie.A smoking room with speakers and large plate glass,on the other side a crying room for babies.the booth for the 50’s was top notch and very clean"Bill went on "North Augusta only had two theatres this one Marrh/Carolina and the Hilltop Drive-in all on CT.” Thanks Bill.
If this theatre is located in Northridge Shopping center , BOXOFFICE had a write up on the Manager,Ruth Pavic retiring. She was replaced by Gail Turnbow who comes from the Varsity Theatre in Peoria,ILL.Boxoffice August 1987.
