Opened in(1946 or 1947?) as Victory. Name changed to Ashril in(1964 or 1965?) and closed in 1971. Reopened in October or November 1978 as Village Twin(in a merger of Village Cinemas and Denny Cinemas on 4/5/1978), and closed in 1989.

There is a book about Sun Pictures called “Reflections of The Sun” by Maria Mann released in 1991(out of print now i think?). There is also a novel set at Sun Pictures, called “Nights in the sun” by Colin Bowles.

The official theatricial premiere of the Australian film Bran Nue Dae was held at Sun Pictures on 8/12/2009. The World premiere was held at the Melbourne International Film Festival(closing night) on 8/8/2009. The original building(general store) that is now Sun Pictures opened in 1903. Sun Pictures has it own page on Wikipedia.

The inside of Longford Cinema was seen briefly on an episode of the Australian comedy television series The Late Show. It can be seen on the video(The Late Show volume 2) and on the dvd The Best bits of The Late Show champagne edition(volume 2 – chaper 16, What’s all that about).

The Embassy Theatre had the Australasian premieres for “The Lord of the rings, The Fellowship of the ring”, “The Lord of the rings, The Two towers”, and the World Premiere of “The Lord of the rings, The Return of the king”.

Village 10 opened on 21/12/1989, and closed on 10/10/2007. Reopened as Reading Cinemas on 28/8/2008.

The cinema complex has been demolished, except for the floor(and the lift and escalators between the cinema complex and the food hall downstairs?). The cinema complex is being rebuilt(along with that part of Westfield Whitfords Shopping Centre), and is expected to reopen in 2017.

A.M.P. Theatrette opened in 1995. Also been known as Rialto Cinema, Rialtovision Theatrette(and possibly also A.M.P. Cinema?). May still be open and operating? Possibly inside the A.M.P. building(opening date of A.M.P. building unknown?).

The Coburg drive-in is the last operating Drive-in operated by Village in Australia(and possibly the World?).
