Mike I still here all dry we had 12 to 14 inches of rain this weekend many homes and business, flooded, guess you saw us on CNN.
Just saw it on the news so I hope he’s o.k. too. Hopefully by tomorrow he’ll be back on CT. Electricity was probably knocked out.
Following a prayer with a film like “Candy” was almost sinful if not hypocritical. The film could easily have been rated X in 1968. It was certainly bold and suggestive even for this permissive period. The book “Candy” was actually banned in Tampa’s bookstores and yet they allowed the film to be shown. The film did feature several heavyweight stars for the period: Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, James Coburn, John Huston, Walter Matthau, Ringo Starr.
Hope TLSLOEWS didn’t get washed away.We are getting some of it now. Only 2 inches.
Great Article I wish i had to the time to do Augusta’s theatres the way you have done for Tampa.
Can’t remember you ever told me they opened the theatre with a prayer, which there is nothing wrong in that, but “CANDY” a rather hot pictue for its day. Really.LOEWS slipped up on that one.I know something should have been booked in.We opened COLUMBIA 2 with “A Star is Born” which was an R rated film but you gotta admit a few steps up from this drive-in movie. I am pretty sure you sent me the Newspaper ad of opening night. Ringo Starr co-star.Just about the time the Beatles were breaking up.Terry Sutherland wrote it.He penned “The Magic Christian” a M rated movie.
