During the summer they tend to show more kid-oriented films due to summer vacation. The lobby was redone. But the actual film quality and sound while I saw MIAMI VICE could have been better. Who do i write to for comments and suggestions?

I’m afraid you’re right. I was looking forward to seeing a few indie films here, but all they show is the mainstream stuff now. Hopefully they will see the error of their ways? (pardon me while I laff) The only local screens that may show indies are Teaneck and Tenafly, and I refuse to go to Tenafly to see anything!

Yes. But Clearview Cinemas charges higher prices than AMC, which lowered a few of the Loews sites (Pallisades was once 10.00 as Loews, AMC lowered it to 9.50 – evenings). Since Clearview doesn’t offer quality projection (they simply don’t care about proper framing – I know, tragically if you want to see an art picture in Northern NJ you’re likely going to a Clearview site) or even stadium seating. They charge as much as the larger chains but don’t offer the same quality movie going, yes they have invested in revamping lobby areas but the core problems at Clearview still remain. That “nice crowd” you talk about at Washington Township, the type of people that see art movies is likely no more, not saying its gone ghetto but they’ve stoped showing art movies focusing on what Emerson used to show.

Hi, JMags. I’m not sure. I usually go to the late Saturday night shows, so I’m paying full price. The matinees may be cheaper.

Do they still have bargain showings?

Well, considering you can go to Ridgefield Park and see the same film at a matinee for $5.00, and get more seats and a bigger screen, yes I would consider $9.50 high. But this would'nt stop me from going there again, if they played a movie I wanted to see. They do play foreign and independent films too, so the probability of me going back again is high.

I recently went to this theatre, about 6 months ago. Nice place, nice crowd. The price of admission is rather high though; $9.50! I was there only a couple of times when it was 1 screen, and remember it was clean and well maintained.

Joe Masher, the Regal Entertainment Group’s United Artists Washington Township 14 Theatre, located on Rt. 555 and (Crosskeys)-Tuckahoe Road, in Gloucester County, New Jersey (South Jersey) opened 25 years after “2001” came out, sometime between 1993 and 1995, which means Clearview’s Washington Township 3 Cinema, located in Bergen County, New Jersey (North Jersey) opened as Skouras-United Artists Washington Cinema. Sometime after “2001” came out, United Artists sold the theatre to Nelson-Ferman Theatres, who eventually sold this theatre to Clearview Cinemas.

In response to the “2001” ad comment above, the Washington Twp. Cinema was never a UA Theatre. UA has a Washington Twp. Cinemas in South Jersey, as NJ boasts at least THREE localities known as Washington Township that I’m aware of. Ads sometimes get mixed up for this theater and the UA one down south.
As for Justin not believing this theater is still open, it is one of Bergen County’s top grossing theatres! It has a very loyal, dedicated clientele.

The last time I went to this theatre, I saw “Apollo 13” more than 10 years ago, before it became a Clearview Cinema. The sound was OK, but the picture was good and the crowd reasonable. Now that this theatre plays a mix of indie and pop films (some of which would play on two screens), I can’t believe it’s still open!

I seen a theatre ad for “2001” that list this theatre as United Artists Washington Cinema, Washington Township, Bergen County. I would assume that this theatre was a old United Artists location

I belive that, I always knew it as a Nelson-Firman and Clearview location, its just interesting that design is simular to that of two former General Cinema locations I know of, both closed: Ocean County Mall and Leigh Valley Mall. Somebody ought to write a book on the history of General Cinema (if it hasn’t been supressed by AMC…).

This theatre was never a GCC location. If you look at the rest of the mall, the businesses are mostly all identified by their function and not their name. For instance, the bank’s sign says “BANK”. The pizzeria’s, you guessed it, “PIZZA”. Many theatres are identified by a simple CINEMA sign outside—it wasn’t just a GCC thing.

I think this was a General Cinema site at one time. The clue, the word CINEMA instead of “Clearview Cinemas” above its name. Also the bathrooms upstairs, a typical General Cinema architectural design.
