Oh boy, I’m gonna ruffle feathers here. The Sky Vue closed because the land was sold by Floyd Theatres to U. S. Homes with the intention of building a high rise condo. A moratorium was passed by South Pasadena forbidding this. The theatre was re-opened by Bill Eisenhardt and was in operation for many more months. It never played x-rated movies, in fact, we re-opened with a new, green print of Forbidden Planet. I was a relief projectionist there for years and was the full time projectionist from re-opening to the end. I have many pictures and even video.
I was the projectionist there for many years and own one of the RCA ( Brenkert ) projection heads. I also have many pictures including the projection booth both with two projectors and arc lamps and with one projector and platter.
The snack bar was in the bottom of the screen tower and served the theatre patrons from the screen side and was open in the daylight hours and served from the street side through windows. There were picnic style tables on the street side. I have pictures if interested.
