No, this theater was located on Melrose, not Santa Monica. I moved to LA shortly before it closed and got to see a reissue of 8 ½ one weeknight. Sadly, I was the only one in the theater.
The Bethpage was located on Hempstead Turnpike. It was managed by a very tough lady named Rose Russo. She threw me out of the theater during DELIVERANCE because it was rated R. Went here countless times.
The Old Bethpage was located on Round Swamp Rd. in OB. Obly saw a few movies here incl. THE NIGHT PORTER.
I saw one of the last films to play here, Chabrol’s THE SWINDLE. It was so run down you could here crickets chirping throughout the movie

This was a big theater where I first saw CAT BALLOU. Later on such movies as AMERICAN GRAFFITI, SHAMPOO and CATCH 22 among others.
Saw two of the best movies of the 70s here: Fellini’s AMARCORD and Cassavetes A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Also one of the worst: NIGHT OF THE LEPUS, a horror movie about killer rabbits!!
