Responding to some older comments above about covered over projection ports on the back of the concession stand and the pre-opening matchbook cover. Going by the aerial shots on historicaerials this drive in was planned as a 2 screen. In the 1952 aerial the lot has only been half graded. But in the 1962 Aerial some ramps have been added to the back half of the lot pointing toward the front screen. It may have been that after the owners started the flea market that they realized that they could make more money with the flea market than they could ever make with a second screen that they decided to forgo it altogether and only have a single screen. I think that now that they are showing movies again they should add the second screen.

I think contributors to this website should start a fund and we should all contribute money to it and when we have enough we should purchase whole theaters or pieces like screens, Marqees, projection equipment, etc. So we can preserve a little theater history.

I wonder if it really parked 342 cars or if they just advertised it as such so they could claim the title as largest car capacity. Most drive-ins can fit more cars than their stated capacity. I’m sure back then they when by speakers. Today with FM sound I’m sure some Drive-ins cram dozens more in.

For Google maps the best address is 204 Crest Drive it maps right to the former site. It is one of the building that is now located on the property of the site of the old Drive-In. Looks as though the street was named after the drive in theater. I’m not sure why Google maps labels it as North 26th St but when you click on all but 2 of the 4 buildings it list them as Crest Dr. This also matches up with Historic Aerials. I think the address above needs to be changed to coincide.

Are they going to show movies for their employees? If that’s the case I’m moving there and getting a job.

on historic aerials there isn’t a drive in theater present at this location on the 1962 aerial. Either the aerial is dated wrong or it was built after 1962 and there was a previous drive in with the same name at different location. There is no previous aerials or topos. this one needs some more research.

This Drive In Theater Located at 200 N. Bragg Blvd Spring Lake, NC is replaced by a shopping center in the 1971 historic aerial. Maybe this is the Sunset?

I like the 1971 aerial on historicaerials.com you can back it out to see all 4 drive-ins and the terraced lot on rogers dr.

@Kenmore Your right the street view does look terraced it also looks like patches of gravel on the sides like it was a gravel drive. This may be the sunset as referenced by Drive-In 54

I don’t think the opening date for this address is correct the Topos on historicaerials.com don’t show a drive-in theater at this location before 1967. Before that there was a racetrack going all the way back to the 1945 topo and on the 1938 aerial. Could this have been the opening date for the Ride-In Drive-In which also has a page here on CT. The Ride-In Drive-In was listed as (Closed) in the 1948-1949 edition of Theatre Catalog. Or perhaps the Ride-In Drive-In was located at the Racetrack and before it was Ride-In it was listed as Drive-In.

Google maps to 41.323896, -93.151693 right next to White Breast Creek where the bridge used to cross when McGregor Rd was Route 92. Appears on 1964 Aerial map on historicaerials.com. It looks like it was already closed by that time.

I think the actual address of this theater is 11503 MO-72 Ironton, MO 63650. There is a house and a pond on the property now but you can still see the ramps. Unless this property was another drive-in theater.
