The owner was in there for 3 hours yesterday with structural engineers. Something is brewing… I was in the theatre about a month ago. While it needs TONS of work, It can be restored. I will try to post the pics I took in there.
What would the criteria be for having a movie night? I was thinking a double feature with all proceeds going to the theatre (Minus the cost of renting the films)
Just stopped by the Marboro. Early this morning, The entrance was sealed with 4x8 sheets of plywood. Unless it is removed, There is now no way in (Including for the owners as all other doors are locked from inside) Let’s see how long this lasts.
Well they acted on my call. I just passed by and found the marquee all lit up. The door had been boarded shut, well at least for a few hours……….. And has since been pried right back open. The saga continues. I guess they thought that the lights being on will stop any more breakins. It seems that they were wrong. It was nice seeing the lights on again. I will post any updates.
Passed by tonight and found the doors wide open and people coming out. I don’t want to think of what they were doing in there. I called 311 and was put through to the Buildings dept. They said there are several complaints and that Regal will be getting a call and the theatre a visit from an inspector.
Regal should realize that they could be in big trouble if somebody gets hurt in there. (Door was wide open for days until a local resident locked it with a chain and padlock) Whatever they plan to do, I hope they do it soon. The entire block is becoming an eyesore.
The newspaper was the Bay News.

Did the Ridgewood close??? In the paper today in the movie listings The Ridgewood had “Call theatre for schedule”.
The Flatbush Pavilion, Kingsway, Marboro, etc. all had that listed when they closed. Hope this is not the case.

I doubt it will be any more then 8 screens…
Well, It’s official. The Marboro will be torn down in May so the new multiplex can be built.

THIS IS A DOUBLE LISTING. Same as the “Highway Theatre”

I have not gone back. I plan to sometime soon. I was, however in another closed Brooklyn theatre recently and got shots. Those will be posted soon.
As of yesterday, It was being gutted for it’s new life as a catering/wedding hall.
Any news on the lease?
Hey now… This isn’t a dating service ;–)
I believe the architect was Charles W. Sandblom. Can anybody confirm this?
Bathrooms are still upstairs but everything is new construction. I have a funny feeling that the balcony still exists. I am trying to confirm this.
One more thing. The pics were taken in Sept-Oct 2003.
I am the MW who took some of those pics. I have many more and will have them up on that page soon.
This theatre should be relisted:
It was the Loew’s Broadway for most of it’s life.
It was demolished in mid to late 1998.
Listing should be changed to: Loew’s Avalon
Should be listed as Loew’s Broadway
To clear some things up in the listing
Loew’s Coney Island renamed Brandt’s Shore in the late 60’s for it’s last few years.
Status: Closed Architect: Reilly & Hall Chain: Loew’s
Listing should read Loew’s 46th Street as this was the Universal for less then a year.
