The whole building is going to be demolished. The land marked portions were removed. The plan is to restore them off site and reinstall them when construction is almost complete.
It’s not in too poor shape to reuse. I was in the theater a few years ago. They wouldn’t get the extra 35 stories of apartments if they restored the Varsity.

Not really. This theater was demolished and replaced with condos. That new building has a small theater in it that is named after this one.

It’s called TheatreCon now.
Yes, it had a Wurlitzer Opus 1430 2m/10rk. It was installed around 1926.

The auditorium is occupied by an apparel company. According to the owner “We gutted the theater so we could turn it into our warehouse and offices.”
Doesn’t sound like anything is left.

This theater should be listed as closed. It hasn’t been except for one or two events since the Farm Worker’s Council bought it in 2011.
