I was looking at a 2D show on a Real D set up with a curved screen and was surprised how much the silver screen ruined the image brightness uniformity. It hotspots directly in front of you and follows you when you move side to side! Also the screen is too shiny which spoils it completely for me.If this is the future i will watch my DLP projection at home with BLU-RAY.
Film done wrong has a tough time competing with decent DLP setups at home or in a theatre because of all the variables for error but film done right is tough to beat. The low quality release prints of today make it near impossible for film done right to happen but 70mm can blow everything away with ease.
I am grateful for 75 year old men (and women)on Cinema Treasures feeling upset about the demise of the movie palace, because in my hometown it is more the young folks who are upset.
I never thought we had to save all the palaces, but when it came to the very last one, i did get angry! It was the old guard in my city which spun this saga in favor of progress(parking lot)!
Not even the last movie palace was saved in my city and it is very hard to get past it.If this thread is helpful for creative solutions to saving some remaining palaces in other cities that will be great.I am jealous of many cities and towns behind or ahead of London Ontario! We are tooo ahead of the progress curve in this plastic London i used to love
No!A good 35mm blow-up blows away 35mm projection on a big screen! Its the physics of the larger frame area, more light passing through it.The high speed printing of 35mm prints will not happen with 70mm prints. It is rare to get a bad picture,a 480p video projector compared to a 1080p.
I also love Temple of Doom except for its sour notes here and there. It is flawed but challenging where Last Crusade played it safe to the point of dull.I still love them all though.
How does a single screen theatre pay for this when we can barely make ends meet now?The studios are locking us out of good titles because of pressure from the big chains and i think it gets worse in the future.I hope i am wrong but for example we are only now getting NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN!
Has anyone read, heard, or thought about the near future when few film prints are needed? The potential for good theatres to get state of the art show prints to compete with everyones digital cinema?I mean even now digital stuff transfers very well to film with high speed printing but imagine show prints made with care for reputable theatres with a good projectionist and best equipment!
I think it has potential but might be smashed by the big chains who convert completely and want to take the film competition out.
I bought a 700 reader DA20 and CP55 on e-bay for a good price! If you get a DA20 you will need to upgrade the CP55 to Dolby SR\A from its original Dolby A type status or you will not get stereo surrounds.A good technician can perform this.It is worth it for the great improvement in sound to upgrade it.Good luck.

Capitol theatre
It is very simple,Shmuel Farhi demolished Londons last downtown movie palace 15 months ago,NOT years ago as he likes to say, which sounds like someone else did it!The theatre auditorium was in excellent condition and at least 2 different groups wanted to restore its former glory. This rescue mission was moving forward until Farhi out bid us because he wanted a parking lot.The city could have stepped in to save the Capitol at this point which is normal in other cities.Instead they handed out a demolition permit under condition the facade be preserved.Yes you may destroy 95% but not the 5% we care so much about. So now he offers ownership of this 5% Capitol facade to the city for free but council rejects it.I predict a gap tooth or a facade of the facade in the future. Most Londoners think the Capitol is still 100% reopening soon so a gap tooth solution might make them think we have a growing sinkhole problem downtown! We cant have that.Poor city council, what to do?

Captain Crunch. The city of London has been not very fortunate. Maybe TG can take credit for the “ongoing of the city (sic)” over the last 20 years. There isn’t a thinking person in London who isn’t looking for an explanation for why London sucks so much. London sucks…TG was in charge for 20 years…you do the grade one math. Captain of the Titanic maybe.

I would like to add the Capitol Windsor Ontario Canada,a 2000 seat Thomas Lamb theatre.I need to learn how to create links but it has a page on Cinema Treasures and its own friends of the Capitol site on the web.
Hello Lost Memory!Yes indeed it is whats left of the Capitol. The new owner who demolished the auditorium wants to destroy the facade as well and so he lets it sit there and decay. Before the demolition he called the Capitol an eyesore but over a year later it looks even worse.
I love this page, wow,i never bothered to read it before because i have come to a place in my life where i hate multiplexes and most of the corporations involved!Life is too short to read about this place i thought.I was wrong, this page is so full of negative vibes i find it soothing to read. Thanks everyone.
You are the best! Lost Memory!
He also did more than his fair share of demolishing many fine single screen palaces to make way for those Cineplex Odeon plexes.
The newspaper entertainment section at the library,if they have microfilm records.
There are CP500 and DA20 units on filmteck!Check in the forums under equipment for sale.

Wow,This is truly incredible!
Nice pictures!I have an auditorium shot which shows it is identical to the Palace[Park]in London.

I would check microfilm of the newspaper at the library for movie adds and listings.
schmadrian The impact of dvd was in the late 90s not 1990?

Hi Suwanti
Do you have any other info on any theatres with a connection to Bruce Lee?
Intact behind the white metal is a wonderful terra cotta stone and windows with curtains still hanging! It was covered over in 1976.
