And this theatre had a spectacular marquee! I wonder what happened to it…dare I ask?

Where were the plaster horses located in the theatre?

The photo posted on April 23, 2010 is most amazing to see…looks like there is an organ near the stage. Such a shame to have lost this elegant Rapp & Rapp theatre to the stupidity of the owners then. Who were the owners then??

I just learned of this theatre in Detroit and the Michigan Theatre…such a shame.

It’s a great theatre with $43 million going into the restoration!

Is this theatre or some other old theatre in the Pittsburgh area used to film the Doo Wop concerts?

Patsy commented about West Erie Plaza Cinemas on Mar 3, 2011 at 3:44 pm

I don’t know of any old movie theaters in Erie still open though there have been many over the years. The Warner isn’t a movie theater, but thank goodness Erie didn’t demolish it as it is the jewel of downtown, imo. There is an original theater in Wellsville and in Brockport NY. A more complete CT search will help you locate others.

Such a sad note! The bright leaf was named for the tobacco leaf grown in Surry County.

Though it is not my hometown theatre it has a connection to my hometown theatre as they were both designed by Michael DeAngelis.

You are welcome…always nice to see someone interested in the arts and perhaps The Stage would be the perfect venue.

Kaila: May I suggest that you send your acting classes/workshops request to Mr. Penner via his email that he has so kindly provided for us in his Feb. 20 entry. Good luck as I’m sure he would be receptive to your suggestion.

So nice to find this art deco theatre with its beautiful art deco style facade intact and its original marquee with illuminated neon and lightbulbs. I applaud the folks of Caro for keeping their little town theatre looking great after all of these years!

The Winter Garden was sadly demolished in the Summer of 2010.

A former longtime CT member posted here in 2005 about the Robert-Morton organ and it raised my curiosity…until now. I hope to visit the Carolina Theatre and see a performance with organ music. A recent visit to Greensboro this past Sunday allowed me to take some exterior photos prior to the US Figure Skating Championships finale.

Brian: Thank you so much for your reply to me via CT. Now everyone knows about your organ. We, at Cinema Treasures are so very pleased to know that you have your theatre pipe organ as so many theatre have lost their pipe organs for various reasons. And a special thank you to the Piedmont Theatre Organ Society for maintaining a musical treasure.

Chuck AND Lost Memory though LM (Ken) doesn’t contribute to CT anymore and it is our great loss to this theatre site.

Does this theatre still have its organ? I hope so!

I have called this theatre’s box office manager and hope to receive a tour this winter. This theatre is just around the corner from the famous Woolworth sit-in of the 60’s which is another stop while in Greensboro.
