Thanks ECR for the update. By the way, what exact kind of advertisement did you see posted at the Ridgewood?
Hey Guys and gals after a week of leaving voice mails with Jenny she finally called me back and left a VM. As of last week Ridgewood has not been put on the schedule for a vote yet. She was not sure when it will happen.
Also I just notice there is now advertising on the site
Thanks for the heads-up, Mike !
Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a pleasant Labor Day weekend. Sorry for my noticeable absence on the CT site, but I have been keeping a close eye on the theater’s fate. I called the following individual a few days back, and she said she will either e-mail me or call, and let me know when the theater facade is up for a vote by the commissioners, in order to decide whether it will be designated an Individual Landmark. According to media accounts with the LPC, the date will be in mid-September, but that was published a while back. I will let you know as soon as I receive any response. It would be of great help if you can call and question it as well, and encourage them to take a vote very shortly. Thank you!

Thanks, DABOC24.
I signed the Petition and sent it out to pals from Ridgewood and friends from NY and anyone who appreciates saving good architecture and asked them to FWD to anyone who would care about preserving the past.
Thanks for the heads-up, John D. Michael Perlman (NativeForesrHiller) is probably right on top of it.
As September is fastly approaching, the Landmarks Commission decision regarding the Ridgewood’s application should be imminent. So, look out for any news accounts of this decision if you see it and, if possible, link the text of the Commission’s decision to this page. We don’t need to hold our breath that much longer.
Yes.
I drove by the Ridgewood about 2 weeks ago, and it looked the same….nothing good…nothing bad.
I will have nothing more to report until I return to Ridgewood next month (September 2009).
This seems to more accurately reflect what I saw during my last visit to this site and is very reassuring. So, hopefully, work is being done that will soon produce some positive results.
Does anyone else have anything to report?
You’re welcome, LM. My pleasure. Hopefully they will be.
I walked by the Ridgewood Theatre this morning, Friday August 14 2009, between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon. There were some signs of activity within. The screen in front was down, but one door each to the outer and inner lobbies were open. I could see tools and ladders within. The names of films were still posted above the entrances to what had been the two ground floor cinemas :
1 THE P ARTANS
2 VANTAGE POINT
There was no phone number posted anywhere on the marquee.
Ross just like any group be it on the net or in real life things happen and people change be it good or bad. As i stated before I personally never had a problem with Warren. Whenever I came across a link he may have posted where the link was no long active and I brought it up to him he was always prompt about updating those links.
I like to think we are a community here and I know I like hearing about others adventures be it at Ridgwood or any other place.
Enjoy your trip and have a great time.
Well, it was “brief” for me. :)
Thanks Peter and best to you all.
Ross
Warmest Regards and Thanks to YOU, Ross Melnick, and to Patrick Crowley, for being here, doing your job, and addressing the issue at hand.
Have a good trip overseas, Ross. Your response was not at all brief, but in-depth and to the point.
Dear All,
I’m traveling overseas so please excuse the brevity of my response.
My conversation with Warren is private, as is all of my communication with other members, a policy I am sure you can respect. In other words, your emails to me are confidential, as they should be.
Warren and I talked at length about the site and came to a mutual decision that the site presented many challenges for him to continue. He did indeed resign and in honor of all of the tremendously important information he added over the years, we have kept his membership active so that the quantity and quality of his contributions are recognized.
For what it’s worth, I am sincerely grateful to Warren for providing so much crucial information over the years. His knowledge is incredible and his generosity in sharing it is deeply appreciated.
I’m actually quite grateful to Warren in the way in which he exited the site. It was amicable and professional.
As for users not getting emails letting you know of posts, you need to post new messages to those theaters you wish to be notified about in order to receive emails.
Patrick and I, and the rest of CT’s incredible volunteers, do not enjoy dealing with interpersonal squabbles. In the nine years since we have been online, we have “banished” only one person.
Often, when someone leaves the site, we are accused of kicking them off. The truth is we hate to do that as it takes an enormous amount of time and upset in dealing with it. We want this to be a place for everyone. There’s no conspiracy here. We’re just trying to run a site for theaters as best we can.
Thank you all for your contributions and your concerns. You are the reason this site is as incredible as it is.
Warmest Regards and Thanks,
Ross Melnick
I just switched browsers to see if there was a problem with CT but I guess not. I was just on IE8 for the last post and noticed that after I finished typing I had to wait about 5 seconds for the letters to show up. I am on Chrome right now and it is working fine
BTW when I did log in here I was directed to the main page and there was an article about the passing of Reverend Ike. In case you were not aware of who he was he ran his church out of what used to be the Loews 175th st. At least he did something to preserve the 175th st
Larry I have seen a few women posting on here. You just have to look back a ways.
Hey has anyone seen Bway lately? Looks like his last post was on June 29th 09.
Do you mean on this Ridgewood Theatre page or this site ?
On CT, there are “Anniegirl” and “MVitale”, that I know of.
I think all of you are taking this CT thing far too seriously. 99.9% 0f the world has never heard of this website. You guys are putting far too much importance on this website and what Warren did, and did not do.
By the way, it seems to me there has never been a posting from a female. Am I correct?
Yes, ziggy, Warren indeed bugged me, but it was also a justice issue. Why should CT'ers be subject to Warren’s abusive posting ?
Also, Warren had taken it upon himself to do CT’s management’s job for them.
Ross Melnick, and Patrick Crowley, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Indeed my good friend Peter.K. As someone who has received their share of insults from Warren I believe that we should now move forward. Let us not build a shrine to this individual. Instead we should rejoice.
George
Hi Chuck. I don’t seem to recall your name here but since you said you were away for 2 years a big welcome back to you. Hopefully what ever it was you had to deal with is behind you now. I know how overwelming it can be. I was a survivor of a 5 way bypass 4 years ago.
Howard just like any other communities be it real or cyber as I said we have a core group here. We can pretty much take care of our selves and if the powers that be (CT) feel there is something wrong going on in here I am sure they can either post a warning message in here or e-mail to the individuals involved.
Hey LM I have not been up to Baltimore since that last time I posted about the Apollo so I have no followups and I have not heard anything more on what is or is not happening to the Howard.
That is my CT update/non update report.
