Challenger says Devitt “single handedly started all the sniping on the original website under his own name, and ” I have them ALL SAVED TO PROVE IT.“ Challenge sounds like a "BITTER MAN” who has a personal grudge against Preservationist Jim Devitt.
Challenger says LD4 “ Don’t stoop to their level."
If LD4 should ever post comments on this board again ,I think that the best response would be to just humor him.He definitely needs to be humored.Even his own comprade theatre haters have told him to stop posting on this site.

Deb Dynako wrote this to LD4:

“Especially with your comment about Mr. Carroll and Mr. Devitt. That was by far the worst thing I’ve seen written anywhere. I’m sure even Challenger and Marissa would agree with me on that one.”

I will agree with Ms. Dynako on the Carroll comment, but don’t ask me to defend devitt. He single-handedly started all the sniping on the original websites' (www.dupagetheatre.com) message board under his own name, and I have them all saved to prove it. He deserves all the abuse he gets.

LD4 don’t stoop down to their level.

LD4, your gene pool is pretty shallow! You said you are happy the silos are gone and the property was sold to a condo developer, then you say you hated the RSC plan. Why don’t you protest that Hammerschmidt was sold to a dreaded condo developer? I never heard anyone complain about that, yet you said you’re not happy about more condo’s. It’s not really the condos you hate, it’s the theater—admit it. A library won’t raise your property values like you hope, so give it up and admit you are just plain against the theater!

This board has gotten out of control and is off topic. Those of us that live behind the theatre (Charlotte Street) agreed in our e-mail chain to stop posting on this board. LD4 is NOT representative of our neighborhood. I apologize to those that have been offended. BW please stop. LA

Ms.Dynako,
A. The silo property was sold to another Condominium developer on June 2nd. I live about 100 yards from that property and we are happy they are gone. I’m not happy about more condo’s and that’s why we hated your plan.

B. I will not apologized to anyone. Why shouyld I? All you people do is try to tell us what’s good for us. The village voted..Enough is enough.

I can’t believe you think I live in Lombard, if you check the 1000’s of posts I have done on this site over the years you would know I live in New York. I think all your fighting is sad because as a New Yorker I can tell you we never got over loosing the Roxy, Rivoli, Capitol and countless others. It may cost money and it may ruin peoples plans for condos or K-Mart, but trust me a movie palace can never be duplicated and years from now you will regret loosing something that could be the center of your downtown.

Please don’t twist my words. What I’ve been reading on this site and the other is how you want: mixed business, retail and residential. Parking. What many people don’t understand is that that’s what the RSC plan entailed. Most people who opposed it didn’t want the condos to be 5 stories. I wasn’t an official “Friend” when the RSC plan was presented, but I liked what I heard. I was actually excited, the village was going to go in this dynamic direction.

The trouble is the details were still being refined when the board changed and Sebby did his damage. It happened so fast. And yes, I felt betrayed by my trustee. We were angry that all the hard work we’d done had been thrown in the garbage…just like that. And throwing the grant money away. I still think that was outrageous. But we’re not angry anymore. We’re more committed than ever to save this building.

I’m still very committed to the DuPage Theatre becoming an Arts and Cultural center because I believe that is how it will best serve the community. Again, it was a gift to the village. That’s why the idea for a Cultural Center was born. Cultural centers all over are doing very well. Even the trustees who oppose the DuPage say we need one. And so I stand behind that idea. But maybe some people have different ideas of what would benefit them. And it doesn’t hurt to listen. I’m open to a better idea if someone has one if it serves the needs of the community with the spirit that Big Idea intended AND saves the Theatre.

DuPageDude,

Everyone on this board and the other is angry. We need to tone it down so that we can get to a rational place and talk about the issues. The Friends want a restored theatre, plain and simple. How do we get there with all the name calling going on? LD4 may not want to go down this road, but if Marissa does and some other folks do, then it is definitely worth a try. I say we have a “town meeting” and get this all out in the open. Let people talk about what’s best for the downtown. I agree with duper supporter that Yorktown is not downtown. I was at Yorktown yesterday and it’s not smooth sailing over there either. Some businesses don’t know if their leases are going to be renewed. And because of it, they’re selling off all their inventory. Management isn’t calling them back. They can’t prepare for the holidays. They’re pretty upset. But I digress…

I live just blocks from downtown, and I’d like to be able to really use it. I work from home, am raising my kids at home and we walk around all the time. We just don’t always have a place to go. That’s one reason why this building is so important to me. It’s a destination. I don’t want to walk past a major parking garage. That’s an awful thought to me. If we need one so bad, why don’t we build it on the property where the Silos used to stand. Does everyone remember how important it was to rip those down at the taxpayers expense? How nothing happened for MANY years on that property? How one deal after another fell through? And what do we have there now? A parking lot. That’s another reason why I don’t think the Village should 1) tear down the theatre without another plan for all to see 2) use my tax dollars to do the teardown. If a developer wants the property so bad, that developer should be responsible for all the costs associated with the property—-not me, as there will be no gain for the residents. But again, I digress…

And LD4, the Rita you refer to is a very fine woman. I’m pleased to know her. Her dedication on the Historical Commission for almost 30 years shows a commitment to doing good works in the community. Your remarks are uncalled for. She doesn’t visit this site, but I would ask that you would apologize to her, and to all the other people you’ve completely disrespected. Especially with your comment about Mr. Carroll and Mr. Devitt. That was by far the worst thing I’ve seen written anywhere. I’m sure even Challenger and Marissa would agree with me on that one.

I already questioned if that was the Friends “offical” position or if they even knew what she was saying…For her to now talk about different uses other than cacultural center is a slap in the face of every resident and volunteer who has toiled to see a dream come true.

This also should be very interesting.

Find someone to finance your theatre dream and go for it…and fascinating that the official communications director for the group that is suing the village along with the historical commission now says save the building for adaptive reuse as a community center or “maybe many things”. Unreal and a little late their Ms Dynako. Should have taken that stance before filing the lawsuits and continually berating the board for their actions like your cohorts have done so often both in the press and at public meetings. The friends lack of compromise on the site is what did this in all along.

BTW, the Sox won again (natch) so I flipped past “Soundstage” on PBS—-It’s country singer Martina McBrida at the Genessee in Waukegan—theatre looks great, and from their web site, more and more events there all the time! Too bad the DuPage isn’t already done, there’s a TON of middle-tier artists such as Miranda Lambert, Gary Allan, and others looking for smaller venues to play in to help them gain a following!

DuPageDude

It appears LD4, aka Lombard Guy on the anti-theatre board, is off his meds. Read the way he treats people—where’s Marisa to tell him to relax?

Ms. Dynako-why would you open a dialog with someone connected with one of the biggest nuts out there? Are you that naive? Based on what you just posted-saving the building as a theatre is no longer the main focus-is that the Friends offical position? What about all the dollars spent on architects, business plans, etc? If you change the emphasis from using the building as a cultural center, you might as well give up!

Amazing…Dupersupporter Devitt posts at 6:46 and out of the blue this mystery person he created the Murph pops on the board at 7:00. Do you really think we are that stupid Jim?….Why don’t you come get your shirts.

Rita….You are a very sick woman. You live on the corner of View and Main….Why don’t you come look at that pile of garbage you call a theatre from my front porch. I live right behind it. You Friends think you all know what is best for everyone. You make me sick.

DebDynako
DebDynako on October 15, 2005 at 7:46 pm

duper supporter, I see many things going on here. But continually confronting and name calling is not doing anyone any good.

Marisa, sorry if you thought I’ve been tough on you. I just wanted to call you out, and here you are. I would appreciate opening a dialog. But I don’t think we need to start off by saying “no” to any options. Maybe an Arts and Cultural Center could still work. Maybe a community center. Maybe many things—-things that would benefit all the residents of this village. That was the point of the gift in the first place. But we have to start somewhere, and I think dialing our emotions down a notch is a good thing. Then we’ll be able to come to the table and discuss things in a more positive light.

By the way, if the Village would adhere to their ordinance, their own law, and allow for the six-month stay, the suit would be over. It was their choice to break their own law. I feel it is up to us, as citizens, to make sure our elected officials uphold the laws they’re sworn to uphold. Don’t you agree? You’ve been very adamant about RSC and variances. If you ask me, it’s the same thing with the six-month ordinance…

Well folks, where do I begin? I’ll start with this. I was out working in the yard this afternoon and Paul, my neighbor, came over with a puzzled look on his face. He’s a member of the Friends, and he asked me where I stood on the theater. I said I don’t know, why? He told me well, you’re name is up on a theater website, and you’re being accused of a lot of stuff. I excused myself, went in and looked it up. I was amazed! Here I was, responding to a long thread about a party put on for those opposed to the theater, and all of a sudden, I’m being accused of being a person I have never even met!! I was against the theater, and had written some letters to various officials, but now, I am not so sure, we are rethinking our position her at the Murphy household. Any ideas, folks? I have read and seen a lot of rhetoric, nut is any of it true?

LD4 has suggested that I vandalized someone’s property.

Just read all of the posts on this comment board.Read them from beginning to end. Then decide when this message board got mean.Read when the lies and distortions started. The mean spirit on this comment board didn’t begin with the “Friends”.
I don’t want to be acccused of vandalizing someone’s home.
I also don’t want to be refered to as dude, ghamilton, ect ect..Get that through your dense skulls.Because I am NOT THEM.
It is like I said. The best way to confront the lies and distortions is head on.This website is NOT the enemy of preservation. This website is all about preservation.
If the theatre haters want to spread their lies and distortions then let them find another website.Better yet.Let them create their own.
Deb Dynako, don’t you see that when these people are confronted with the real facts on the issues such as TIF money for the theatre verses TIF money for private businesses they have no answers. They change the subject matter. When they are confronted with the truth on what was was said and acted upon at government and school board meetings they do not respond. The list goes on and on.Spare us all in the future.

Are you denying that you are also “Dupeisdone” I hope not ‘cause the things that poster says are the exact same that you do…How do you know Rita is not my first name? Ask my husband!

Rita – only myself and one other person even posts their real name so why would you think that duper or others could not be Jim Devitt.

Is RestorationRita your real name? I think not. So why couldn’t one of those others be the infamous Mr. Devitt? His posts are pretty easy to spot, if you been reading his foolishness as long as I have.

Understand?

You know Rita with people like you who needs friends? You must be that nut case Rita on the Historical Commission. Have you realized that the game is over and you and your old timer cronies lose? Go save an old house or something before builders tear down all the old ones in town. If you have been here in town for 30 long years then you must have lived in a rat hole in the ground to not see this dump decay like it has for the past 15 long years! Bring on the dozers NOW!

Shame on you Rita – you proved my point.

You’re right – the Friends shouldn’t reach out to other people like me, they should keep with their current strategy. It’s really been a success so far.

I hope all of you who are true preservationists are reading this.

Deb – my offer still stands. Rita, duper and pals, goodbye and good riddance. Keep up your efforts, you need all the help you can get…
