Al, do you know if they undivided the 3 large auditoriums that had been divided? I suspect they are going to add more. Very strange for AMC to purchase a small theater.
It appears that demolition of this theater has started. The box office is intact, but all the outer and inner doors are gone and it looks like they are also removing the seats. Very sad this theater could have come back big time when the mall takes off if a new chain like AMC invested money in it and converted it to digital and one of their cinema and dines.
Everybody going enjoy and be grateful you can see it at the Ziegfeld in 70mm. Where I live in Asheville NC there is no theater that has ever been equipped to show 70MM. What a bummer.
I was only 7 when it closed, but I do know that on weekends they showed Italian double features because at the time it was a predominantly Italian neighborhood. After it closed it became a social security office then a office supply store in the early 80’s Funny I had a dream about this theater the other night. If I remember correctly the name Savoia hung above the marquee vertical and curved.
Great news Howard. The area is coming back with this opening and the old 69th Street theater now Theater 7000 and of course long live the Tower.
I lived in NYC from 75-83 and it was the marquee then Garycom.
I lived in Jersey City in 1977 for about a month and it was a quad then when I saw Pete’s Dragon there.
So it isn’t used as a regional theater anymore.
I always hated this theater. Terrible screens.
He has an excellent point. The theaters here in Asheville NC don’t have any restrictions on what theaters beer and wine are taken into.
Very nice theater and screen
Carmike is the worst theater chain around after Frank Theaters.

Did they ever fix the 3 auditoriums that had damage from Sandy?
Is Stomp not playing? Are they remodeling the theater?
Three cheers for opening The Interview tomorrow. Freedom of speech wins again

Maybe the fight isn’t dead. This could be wonderful news.
Very glad Disney had the world premiere of Into The Woods here at the Ziegfeld and not at the El Capitan in CA. It seems to have been on Dec 8
I hate Carmike Cinemas. I knew they would ruin this theater when they took over.
:(
If my memory serves correct, this theater had 70MM projection and showed many films in 70MM. Howard Haas can you confirm this?

Howard theater 1 masking opened left to right. Theater 2 masking went down just fro the top.

Will we still get news stories daily Ross? I am still waiting for a like button on comments like Facebook.

Good point Howard. The aspect ratio for 70mm at the Ziegfeld and the Boyd were actually not as wide as a scope 2.35 ratio.
Is this going to be a true 2.35 aspect ratio 70mm showing or 1.85 which The master was. to me 1.85 aspect ratio is not true 70mm
