I gave a picture of the statue that was stolen to someone down there. I can always make you a copy. Had I known someone was going to steal it I would have taken it when i went in ,at least I would be able to give it back, I have the Blueprints of upstairs somewhere in my basement with other stuff. I hope one day to give it all back when you guys get going. I have given material to Tim at the Imperial , so i am not not shooting you a line of BS. Get with Tim and he can let me know if you want the statue picture. I do have a picture of the MILLER playing a BEATLES movie,Tim has that picture too.
Friends, I only have pictures of when I went in years ago, none when the theatre was really a grand theatre. It’s funny, i use to assist.mgr. at the Imperial when one no else wanted to. I would work Columbia 1 and 2 or National Hills and both were great places, but the downtown theatres in the good days ,my days, 1974 -79 we were always wanted to out do the Miller and I am sure they thought the same, going neck and neck with great films. and even though they were GEORGIA THEATRES and we were ABC THEATRES on a busy night they had no problem loaning us ice when we had a big show, and we did the same for the MILLER.
Dear Rogerpen, As i stated before i knew Peggy from coming up from Augusta to see the Belmont. She was such a sweet lady and took the time to chat on very busy friday FANTASTIC FOUR opening or Spiderman I can’t remember the movie, just a great Drive-in that hope I will be able to visit. She had visitors from Tampa that would always make it a point to see a film while in the area. We would start at CAROWINDS and end with the BELMONT DRIVE-In. Great Summers I hope the people of GASTONIA realize the treasure they have in their backyard.
Golly, I knew that date there was something on it,Some black singer called MO-NEIQE or somthing stupid like that has a show that night. I don’t know, maybe i can drop in,but dang I hate staying a few hours, but like I said, that might be all you can handle with my theatre stories, most which are on CT.
I guess no chance of getting Lisa K. and her brother Mark. I know Mark lives in Atlanta. I haven’t a read a thing from Nick or Tlsloews in quite a while, in fact if I can’t get you all on I usually just get off and let my girls on . I don’t understand why Lisa would not come to a NATIONAL HILLS reunion her brother and her worked years for ABC and Plitt, Wild.
I tell you I have worked with alot of great managers, but Craig Zacker was above all.Not that I ever would have, but had i been in a big jam, i know he would be there, and like alot of his Augusta guys that managed with him,we miss you Zack.
I never addressed why I left this Theatre. At the time in Augusta we were having massive shows at the arena that paid so much better. I worked VAN HALEN and would drive back in the early hours to work at Georgia Square. I would work another show a ballet, opera, anything a Stagehand does and head to Athens. I finally did a chicken shit thing and just packed up and left one night.Leaving Mr. Zacker and Charles alone. It bothered me for months and finally I called Zack to apologize and he was so gracious and just treated me like i gave the two weeks notice i should have months ago. I just couldn’t walk in that office and face him because of friendship.
Robin, do the best you can> i don’t want you to go crazy. will the movie ad work on CT about opening night.I wish I would have taken more pictures of my theatres like you did. I even had a Super 8 movie camera I wish like heck I would have shot a couple of hundred feet of film from those days.It would be Silent, but I could have added music, but Alas,I didn’t Film.
I remember going by the Twin Aire as a kid and i thought it was the neatest DRIVE-in I had ever saw.Being from Augusta,we had plenty of Drive-ins,but not a Twin Drive-in. It was out in the sticks when I would drive by it with my family going to Speedwell,Tenn. to see family. Way before the interstates. I would love to see a picture of it Bob,if you ever come across one> bet they had a write up in BOXOFFICE. So glad it is on CT.
Robin, we have a show Saturday,a small event,So i hate to drive over and stay just an hour or two,but that might be all you all can take. You never know how long you will be there could be as short as 4 hours or longer. Were you going to try and get a few of the others from your gang? Was Bill coming? You know you might just want to wait to after MASTERS,but if you all got it planned,I can’t promise anything, but i might be able to come by,but I just hate staying a couple of hours. We really hardly talked any theatre stories last time. I am so glad you can get these pictures on.
I sent a few pictures to Nick, but haven’t seen them on yet. I can send more, but don’t want to send so much it takes so much time I know. Have one of me in front of the Big screen ripped to pieces by Georgia theatre, You might not be able to stand to see that picture. All in All, Robin great work. I appreciate it even though if the rest of the gang {yours and mine} don’t.
Great shots. I know you are glad you took a few. I have searching everywhere for pictures.I think I have found them. Any for STONEMONT? I am going to look now. Bye.
I got looking at the picture and noticed it was taken at Christmas . “PETE’S DRAGON” promo is above the starting times. An ad for “HEROES” is taped on the window with Christmas decorations in the Box Office, white floating angels and green garland taped above. I had come down to take a picture of “THE Gauntlet” on the marquee that i was proud of, being the number one Clint Eastwood fan in Georgia.
okay,Believe or not this same double features plays at the Hilltop Drive-in in North Augusta, S.C. “MAGNUM FORCE” and “THE MACKINTOSH MAN” . This double feature is also playing at the TWIN DRIVE-IN in Cincinnati.August 9 1974.
Okay, all you FERGUSON HILLS DRIVE-IN fans, Going on its second week is “DIRTY MARY and CRAZY LARRY” with second feature “LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE” another strange double feature I have found, August 9 1974.
My 1956 motion picture ALMANAC has this drive in parking only 800 cars, not 1015. It was owned by Petersburg Pike Drive-in Theatre Corp. Of all the Richmond Drive-ins it was the largest.
That is Karen Harpe in the box office with doorman Chuck Spearman or Tom Weidmeire,I can’t make it out. “AND JUST WHAT WAS A DOORMAN DOING IN THE BOXOFFICE!” Robin, I want to thank you so much for taking the time to get our theatres on.I would put them up against any theatre in any size town from NEW YORK CITY to Dogpatch, ARK.
Thanks again. You found out just like I did that all your so called theatre buddies aren’t really into movie theatres.

“YELLOW SUBMARINE” I am pretty sure played at the MILLER.
