Nick, I never throw any theatre stuff away the above info came from the ad you sent me years ago, Hey, now that you can SCAN you can show the ad and the pictures you took in D.C. I hadn’t started in thebusiness yet,it wasSept 12 1974 when i started; I missed the EXORCIST first run,but saw it plenty of times, but only while working,i never saw the whole movie. “JAWS” was my BIG movie.
BORIS KAROFF on the Marquee,GREAT! Nick, have you thought about scanning all the newspaper ads you have? I notice alot of theatres have ads.sent some to Robin, but haven’t seen them yet.
I sent that way before we ever heard of CT, You know you could put a bunch of pictures on if you have the time.Maybe in a few months i can send a few because Robin didn’t put all the ones i sent,Maybe it was too many.Well, you know me and these Theatres.
The K-B CINEMA was showing “THE EXORCIST” on Wednesday Feb.6 1974. it showed daily at 1:00 3:05 5:15 7:30 and 9;45 with Midnight shows on Friday and Saturday, There was a policy that they cleared the theatre after each show,In those days most moviegoers once they bought a ticket they could watch the movie again and again, The K-B Cinema stopped thar. even with the R rating {management stated persons under 17 are not admitted} So much for a rating system. This film played day and date at the K-B Silver Theatre {couldn’t find it on CT}
Opens at 8pm ,Showtime Dark. on the marquee when i visited this monster of a drive-in was “JAY AND SILENT BOB” “AMERICAN PIE” and “RUSH HOUR 2”. The marquee was laid out like this:
I wonder if the GREEN BERETS had a world premiere at a Columbus theatre since it was filmed at Fort Benning. i don’t think you have many interested people in Columbus to do research like you do in Augusta and Atlanta, seems like the rest of Georgia cities there is no one to take the time. Maybe,I am wrong.
I am so glad i found this site.I was an avid reader of FAMOUS MONSTERS and have kept almost every copy.Oh, i mised a few issues, but i did get my picture printed in the one that had “SCREAM ANS SCREAM.AGAIN” on the cover. He sent me a autograph of himself that read “Don’t let this give you Mike fright.” you know how happy that made a 13 year old ?
Forry, thanks and it is hard to believe other CT members have not added to what this great Editor did.
Robin, I have ALL kinds of theatre stories on the MODJESKA,Miller.Art theatre.even the triple X theatre CAPRI CINEMA. I debated about the X rated theatre, but at one time they were showing 35mm. Forest Hills Drive in,Cloverleaf.Bon-air,your folks would know all of these theatres. Lakeview Theatre,DREAMLAND.Rialto theatre,Lenox Theatre.and that don’t include all the theatres in Aiken,Waynesboro, Thomson, Washington,Ga. and my GEORGIA SQ.Cinemas in Athens plus even Athens Theatres our Plitt Theatre the PALACE is on CT. Now you going to have to step up to the plate and start giving me some help.
I just wrote about it.I have tried to put all of Augusta’s theatres on CT from Southside Cinema on your side of town to Columbia 1 and 2 over here. check them out when you get a chance.
Robin, as i wrote above.I squeezed in a back exit door and took quite a few pictures.EVERYTHING was left just liked they closed it, Rats were in the stock room eating corn and candy in boxes! The offices had the computers left right were they closed. The booth was left just as if they plan to open the next day.All the platters are there. IT is just in a TERRIBLE NEIGHBORHOOD. Bill told me often before the theatre closed they would have to come up and run hundreds of kids parking their cars in that lot.It wasn’t safe and Told GCC the best place for that 8-plex would have been North Augusta, but they didn’t listen.maybe that is why GCC is gone.
Nick. it is so sad all those old theatre had to come down for all those glass towers. I am so glad i got to see the TAMPA THEATRE and thankgoodness you guys saved it.
I did see CLOSE ENCOUNTERS there when it was a PLITT Theatre. And also i think, COMING HOME.

Well, doggone it,lets get this theatre its own page.It doesn’t need to be tied to a lousy 8 plex.far too much history.
It still sits empty with the one sheet frames right where they left them.REGAL gutted everything else.
And feel free to write about all of them since you and me are the only ones in this city to care!
I have got to get more of my favorite theatres posted on my site like you and TLSLOEWS have.
If he’s like alot of old theatre dawgs,he is probably on CT.
Bill said the cops would have the clear the lots often of people parking there for no reason.that is what i meant to say above.
JULY 14.1974 it closed.it is mention in Nick’s great story. I assume its factual if Nick wrote it, Mikeoaklandpark.
