I’m thinking that this was the movie that took over after THE GRADUATE with Dustin Hoffman played for weeks throughout Christmas of 1967 till mid-1968 or early 1969.
Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn in THE LION IN WINTER played here as a reserved seat engagement at Charlotte’s Capri Theatre on February 12, 1969. It was the ONLY roadshow presentation that played within the two Carolinas with two performances during each showing.

When the MANOR THEATRE opened in 1947,it was a single screen theatre with a seating capacity of 700. When this theatre was a single screener it was the showcase for a round of reserved seat engagement presentations among them North Carolina premieres like “Around The World in 80 Days”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “The Sand Pebbles”, “Funny Girl”,“The Agony and the Ecstasy” among others. It was also got the exclusive engagement showings like “The Sting” too. It was still a single screener by 1978 when it’s run of “Grease” broke all Charlotte attendance records. It wasn’t until 1979 when this theatre was split into two sections becoming the MANOR TWIN THEATRES. When it became a twin cinema in 1979 both auditoriums had a seating capacity of 186 when brings the correct seating count to 372 seats in both auditoriums.
Charlotte was absent from the 70MM presentations of DIE HARD. Instead it was a general release on July 20,1988 where it played at four area theatres in the Charlotte area,among them Charlottetown Mall where it was presented in DOBLY STEREO.
The Movies at North Hills 14 opened on December 21,2004 under Eastern Federal Corporation. Eastern Federal(which was based out of Charlotte)took over the lease to this theater until it sold to Regal Cinemas in 2005 as part of an acquisition from Eastern Federal(which also at that time operated the Brier Creek Cinemas).
What a horrible way to open a new theatre with the premiere attraction of “HANSEL AND GRETEL:WITCH HUNTERS”.
Nice theatre in a huge shopping complex off Chapel Hill Road that opened on the day of the worst ice storm in the Triangle’s history….but it didn’t disappoint the 250 plus crowds who lined up to see this movie FREE….. plus got extra bargain specials at the concession stand.

Stone Theatres is underway to construct a 14-screen multiplex to open in Holly Springs for June of 2013. No word on whether a multiplex in Knightdale hasn’t yet to get off the ground. That is still pending.
