I actually thought they used several different buildings. One looked like the Broadway on 4th. In another shot you could see the old Hall of Records building, which was close to first and Temple.
The retail conversion is done, and the two stores are open for business. Both have drop ceilings, no sign that it was a theater space. One is a shoe store and I forget what the other one was.
They were filming at the Tower today. The theater was open. I took a look inside, but there was a lot of security so you couldn’t just start walking around the auditorium. I took some photos.
I took a few photos of the auditorium today, but I didn’t actually go down into the space. The owner of the electronics store was kind enough to let me look into the back, so I wasn’t going to start rummaging around. I will post the photos later.
I should have said it was the Rose Rosa store, not the handbag store, which is 520. Still retail, though. It was 103 degrees downtown today, so my brain is still fried. Thanks.
It looks like they have put new neon tubing on the marquee letters:

Both Tally’s and the Majestic Theater can be seen in this shot from the 1923 Harold Lloyd film “Safety Last”:

That’s a nice photo.
Isn’t she Johnny Depp’s girlfriend?
I know. I was updating what was going on with the conversion.

Here is the store at 518. I posted this photo last year, but at that time I wasn’t sure which building was the Galway.
