It was Tampa’s most beautiful theater when it opened. Beautiful purple drapes on all walls and purple crtians that coved all the screens. I hate Carmike cinemas I think they are one of the worst theaters chainsin the business.
After GCC pulled out the theater was divided from 3-8 theaters and it was one of the worst cut job I ever saw in a theater. How they have stayed open all these years is beyond me. AMC Twin Bays in the next plaza was much nicer.
I suppose no chance of a release of this movie via fathom events. They never did for Funny Girl last year either. Unfortunately Charity was basically a commercial flop.
The only movie I saw here was in the early 80’s, Snow White. At that time they had no curtains, but did have masking. Anybody know if they ever had curtains?
Glad they are better there. Here in Asheville they don’t even use the box office anymore you have to buy tickets at the concession stand which is ridiculous.

This is even more reason to SAVE THE BOYD so Phila will have another great theater. I PICS idea stinks and is not in the best interest of the city.

Wow this theater looks so much like the Gateway theater in Ft Lauderdale. Pull it up and see.

Didn’t they covert to digital last year? I thought Hyde Park, Overlook, Warwick and this theater had all converted.

They had the exclusive showing of The Color Purple in 1986. It took months to get in to see it.

I saw Prince of Tides there in 1991 and Harry Potter in 2007 and it was first run.
