Here’s a photo of the Babylon in 1983. It really hasn’t changed all that much.

I like how they have “Flashdance” “What a Feeling” on the marquee….

This is another great “old time” atmosphere theater, that still has the personal touch.

Wow, that is pretty cool, I didn’t know they had a boat area too.

Is this the site where Home Depot, Best Buy, and that shopping center is now? Or was it where TGI Fridays, etc and the mall is now?

A real shame, but I agree, it’s time for it to go. The place has been an eyesore for more than 20 years, and while I have happy memories of the place as a kid, the place is so trashed and such a blight on Main Street right now that it HAS to go, and soon.

Is this place still showing movies? Every time I go by, it never has movies on the marquee, and says “something” coming soon or by some date.
It always looks lit up, but unless they only rely on the posters, no movie is ever on the marquee.

This theater is really like an old fashioned movie experience. It’s small, but really well kept.

The Bay Shore sure looked shabby by that point. it was originally supposedly a real showplace in it’s day.

Here’s a satelite image of the Regal. It must have been taken early in the morning as the lot is empty!

I think the screen count has to change to 7 above. It’s more than the 5 listed.

Wow, the theater really looked crapy by that point.

The place looks well patronized, the parking lot always seems full when things are going on there.

I drove by the Islip the other day, and it looks totally deserted. I hope it reopens for something one day.

Bway commented about UA The Movies at Coram on Apr 20, 2009 at 7:30 am

The Coram multiplex building is falling deeper and deeper into shambles every time I go by. the whole site is overgrown, and the building covered in graffiti at this point, all with slashed awnings, etc. the place looks terrible.

Bway commented about Loew's Oriental Theatre on Apr 20, 2009 at 7:28 am

I want to make a trip to see the inside of the Oriental by going to the Marshalls there, but before I waste my time going there, does anyone know if any of the former ornamentation of the theater is still exposed? Is it worth taking a look, or has it just been gutted and covererd up in the conversion?

Bway commented about Whitney Theatre on Apr 20, 2009 at 7:27 am

The Whitney had to be torn down very early on, as the restaurant building that is currently used as a bank on the site, is quite old.

Bway commented about Century Theatre on Apr 20, 2009 at 7:26 am

I have talked with so many people that used to live in the neighborhood, and they always remember the RKO Bushwick of course, and the Monroe next door to the Century, but rarely do they remember the Century. It’s probably because it closed to movies so early on, but the HUGE building would have been really hard to miss. Does anyone remember if this building just stood empty for all those years, or was it used for some other purpose? Old photos taken from the Gates Ave elevated subway platform show the building still in place as of the mid-70’s.

This theater would have been right on the opposite corner of the Willoughby Theater.
