I wouldn’t count my chickens before they hatch about downtown. 5th and Forbes is the worst, right now. Hopefully something good will come out of the project. I was on Liberty Ave. last night and it has improved, yet kind of deserted. But it is far from the red light district it has been.
BTW, Kennywood is OK (not great.)
Hopefully the (possible) reopening and proper usage of the Warner will be a good thing.
Hopefully downtown can get back into the swing of things and clean up.
I was just in Oakland today. Something is going in that space (not sure what) and the “For Lease” sign is down. The American Outfitters store is open in the little spot that housed the candy (or was it ice cream?) shop.
I would hate to see the KC used in the wrong manner such as that. There are empty storefronts down the street that AO can use. Besides, Pgh Filmakers should be using the KC instead of the Melwood Screening Room.
The old theater is located next to Value City Furniture on Rt 22. Next door there is a closed under 21 dance club that is currently vacant. This is where the Monroe was located. At the entrance, you can see where the tiocket booth was located, plus there is a movie poster window box in the area as well.
You can look inside the door and it looks like a mess.
Too bad there are no theaters left in Monroeville. It suprises me considering that is a huge shopping corridor.

This is the best news I’ve had all day!!!
Thank you Ron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can take a picture of the buliding this week sometime.
WOW! Thank you for the picture! I’ve been looking everywhere for one!!!
“ But more recent articles list that same concept being proposed for the site of the former’s Wicke’s Furniture in the Monroeville Mall area.”
Wickes' site may become a movie theater? That would be an ideal spot!
Thanks for the updates JDR!!!
Great picture!
Bring some to Pittsburgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great story! Thank you for posting!
Is the theater closed?
Is it closed?

Update: I was at the shopping center yesterday.

The theater itself on the ouside looks like it’s in decent shape, just looks dirty (just needs cleaning and TLC, lol). Beautiful building.
The caption for the image shown may need to be changed. It says it is the DI used in ‘Twister,’ But stated above the owners say it isn’t.
How does a drive-in theater have air conditioning?
The two theaters have differing addresses, so it may not be the same.
That is an odd looking theater. Middle of a shopping plaza, cheapy undescript marquee. Looks like it could pass for another shop.
Yes they are still open (still has listings in our Sunday paper)
Thanks for the info Doug! :)
From what I gather, the building still sits vacant (judging by the pix in the above link)
The Parkway Theater has a listing on CT. I wasn’t sure if it was located in Stowe Twp or McKees Rocks.

What is in the space now?
So I am assuming that the theater is named after the third MA, not the second?
I would love to see one for Pittsburgh to be published.
