AMC Rockaway 16

and speaking correct English…

Now that Rockaway is all digital, does anyone know if the newly installed projectors are 3D-capable? Or just the current (I believe) three (excluding IMAX). It appears that there’s still some “sharing” going on.

Here’s a suggestion for AMC….remove the liemax screen in that one auditorium and replace it with an ETX screen. Hopefully it won’t be infected by giant bedbugs!!! Also, the price of food at this theater is more expensive than other local theaters in Morris County. During a screening of “The Town”, i didn’t see any trailers for “The Tourist” and “The Fighter” as promised online, just random trailers. One trailer, Unstoppable, looked pretty sharp, and another one, Hereafter, sounded pretty loud toward the end. I’ll probably see “The Social Network” this coming weekend, since it was shot on 4K.

lol. Diet IMAX, new IMAX, whatever you call it, it sucks.

One other note…the lights were left on during the previews, which was a bit distracting. Hopefully they fix that issue the next time I see a movie there. I sent a comment to AMC’s Facebook page to see if they respond.

How were the Seats,Justin? AMC has been known for some of the best seats in the business.Our seats at GCC were horrible,I never could understand why they insisted on putting those seats in.Thankfully,when the seats at the 8-plex were put in they did not move everytime you moved your butt. I always thought AMC was a great Chain,Never worked for them,but visited one in Atlanta for 1983 it was beautiful.Nothing like the GCC locations. I guess,AMC has even gone non-union,even up there. As a manager,i was always glad for union men in the booth.Made it a lot easier to run the floor. Sound was never much of a problem.I remember when Dolby was put in,Quite Frankly, i Could not tell the difference,but I am no sound man. I guess if the print is good the sound such be fine,but for what people are paying for a flick it better be, We would have complaints sometimes on MIDNIGHT MOVIES like “WOODSTOCK” or “YESSONGS” about the sound,but like you said Justin,new prints are the reason.The prints we would pick up for Late shows could have Bugs on them from playing at Drive-ins, Asmashed Fly,anyone. There.I have talked Theatre. I worked in the business from 1974 to 1983 and that gives me the right to make any comment be it 007 in 3-d {i was just kidding fellow,to commenting on 3-D glasses giving some moviegoers pink eye.} So many serious people,Just don’t punch this theatre up.I don’t like trashy radio so i avoid the junk I don’t want to hear. I am glad these guys love this theatre that much,makes me feel like all my past work was not in vain.Somebody must have noticed.

What is the big deal isn’t there 100 Gazillion Theatres on CT!

Justin, my last comment was directed to hdtv267. If someone is going to come out of left field and start criticizing and namecalling, then I want to hear their solution.

hdtv267, help us out…I’m serious. What kinds of theater-specific topics are you talking about? I just mentioned four items that ARE specific to Rockaway (their hand dryers, digital projectors, that they had a bedbug problem [maybe just a rumor], and what they choose to show on their IMAX screen). If they’re off topic, then what do you suggest? BTW, my 65 year old ears are anything but childish! Help us to make this site better, ok?

OK…from now on, theater only stuff…good grief! Now that Rockaway is all digital, what are we gonna talk about? Let me suggest the first item. Get rid of those obscene hand dryers. They’re loud and obnoxious. I use the paper towels. Next item: are the remaining digital projectors 3D capable? Third, what’s the scoop on the bedbugs? Are they gone? Finally, (hope this is on topic) I hope Rockaway will show more “made for IMAX” documentaries like “Hubble 3D”. They’re interesting, educational and deploy some the best 3D out there.

I read on a 007 site that it was being made ,so i guess MGM settled something.Hopefully, cameras will roll,JJD.I know this is off topic,Justin.

JJD,I think hdtv267 had a point,but really after you give the history in the header i don’t see why one can post about theatres and talk about movies.I think most of the time you guys stay pretty much on the topic of the theatre and the projection presentation.I had a couple of guys hit me for not staying on topic on NATIONAL HILLS THEATRE,but for the most you are discussing the business with other managers and how it was compared to today.I enjoy reading you guys one day i might even take in a 3-D if 007 comes out with one.
