This ad was in the Indiana Magazine of History. The article was about the Klan in Indiana in the twenties. I didn’t see another American theater listed in Indiana. http://tinyurl.com/6rjcdj
This is an S. Charles Lee sketch that the LAPL labeled as “unidentified theater”. It resembles the Fox Venice to some extent, but there’s been no mention of Lee as the architect. The sketch could have been for a project that was never built. http://jpg1.lapl.org/pics46/00042583.jpg
Here’s an interesting photo from the LAPL, dated 1930. The white building in the foreground has been replaced by the Larry Flynt building. http://jpg3.lapl.org/pics35/00067285.jpg
11215 is the last building going south before you reach the intersection of Western and Imperial. There is a vacant lot at the approximate location of 11239 S. Western.
There was a shooting in this theater a few nights ago. Two El Segundo police officers were wounded, along with a bystander. It was the first such shooting of an El Segundo officer since 1957. The suspect was killed in the exchange of fire.
Here is a 1911 photo that Larry Harnisch posted on the LA Times' Daily Mirror" blog. The building advertising vaudeville is similar to the photos of the Optic building posted above, at least for the links that still work. All my USC archive links have expired, again. http://tinyurl.com/5mrusg
Interesting that the state building on First and Broadway that replaced the Mason has now been razed as well, for construction of something large. Tempus fugit.

The Star Theater in La Puente, CA is one of the few quonset huts that are still around, although it too is on a short list to be demolished.

I actually posted that photo last year. My mistake. This is a back view, probably from around the time of the opening:
