At least the lobby building is still there, it seems, stripped of all its ornamentation. Compare the old photo at View link with the one at View link . It’s the same building as you can tell by the building next to it.

There’s an old photo of the Howard Theatre at http://www.cinematour.com/tour/us/16489.html and it doesn’t look at all like what is there now. Apparently in the old photo it had been converted into a bowling alley.

I’d love to know more about this theatre if anyone knows anything about it.

Nothing of the drive-in is left at all anymore. The land has been totally cleared and a gas pumps and a large building are going up. You can see my photos of it from 2002 at http://www.cinematour.com/tour/us/19027.html .

I photographed this theatre today. The back door to the former auditorium was unlocked and open about an inch, but due to the snow and ice in front of it I was not able to get it open any more. When the ice melts I would love to get in there and see what it is like inside.

The photos on the assessor’s site must be old. I photographed this theatre today and the front has been repainted.

The streetside marquee for this cinema is still standing even though the building is gone.

Actually, it is owned by the church, but it isn’t a church. It is apartments. Also, the facade has now changed from what you see on the assessor’s website. The building was obviously a theatre, but it is awfully short. The seating capacity in 1947 is listed as 280 and I’d bet that you’d really have to squish people in there to fit that many!

OK, the building that is at 1 Broadway (36 Naugatuck Ave.) is on the Milford assessor’s site at View link . According to that this building was built in 1954 which would mean the old theatre was demolished and this was built in its place. However, you said you found that the theatre was open into the 1960’s, so how could this building have been built in 1954? I have looked at my old postcard of the Colonial and compared it to the photos I took today and decided the comparison is inconclusive. I’m more confused than ever!

Well, the info I was given was wrong. There is no L anywhere as the buildings are not attached. However, there is a 201 in the shopping center which now houses two storefronts. This must be where the cinema was.

This building looks like a former garage or something rather than a theatre. It has a low ceiling, bricked-over windows in the walls, and no pilasters.

I photographed this building today. It must not have originally been built as a theatre because it doesn’t look like one at all. Also, it looks like the current restaurant the Iron Chef has closed down as the building is in disrepair.

I just photographed this former theatre today. There are no shops in this building anymore. It is now an apartment building known as the White Oak Apartments. It also houses the White Oak Construction Corp. in the back. The address is 7 West Main St.

Yeah, sadly this was demolished a few years ago.

I don’t think that the building you describe was the theatre. Records show it was built in 1920 and I believe this theatre operated prior to that. The house at 213 was built in 1995, so I thin kthe theatre probably used to be there and is now demolished.

The area that is missing was not part of the theatre. It was a pizza place or something that had a fire. The fire damaged the theatre next door, and it closed for renovation. While closed for renovation vandals broke in and damaged the inside of the theatre causing it to close permanently. The entire theatre does still stand, though. I believe equipment and stuff is still inside.

The address you have for this building is 41 River St., but the building you link to in the photo is at 49-51 River St.

I have decided that this theatre will never reopen. Originally it was supposed to be like three years ago, but from what I’ve heard there has been NO renovation work at all done in the inside yet.

The theatre will reopen in January as the Westcott Theater according to recent media reports. It will feature live music, comedies, and plays in addition to movies.

This cinema should just be known as Cinema City as Bow Tie changed the name back (removing the Art @ part) when they bought it.
