The number streets run north and south, while the name streets run east and west. This excepts Broad Street, which would actually be 14th Street. Also please note that if you ask someone to take you to East Philly, they will dump you in the Delaware River.
The Shadyside was listed at 5520 Walnut in the 1960 Pittsburgh yellow pages. Click on the second photo on the page for a view of the Pottery Barn at that address today: http://tinyurl.com/ywf25z
What’s interesting in the directory is that the New Cine Lido and the Rex Theater are both listed at 265 Court, but have different phone numbers. Perhaps one of the addresses is a typo.
The 1972-73 Brooklyn yellow pages has a listing for the Century Theater executive office and then an indented list of Century theaters. They were the Avalon, Brook, College, Elm, Kings Plaza Twin, Kingsway, Marine, Mayfair, Midwood, Nostrand, Oceana, Rialto and Sheepshead. I have the addresses if necessary, but I’m reasonably certain that all these theaters have been well documented on CT.
In 1945, the Milwaukee directory listed the Zenith at 2498 W. Hopkins, as opposed to North. I don’t know much about Milwaukee geography, so perhaps someone knows if Hopkins runs north-south or east-west.

I saw one of these on the 15 outside of Las Vegas today. Big R on the front of the building. It may not even be open yet.
In the 1941 Philadelphia yellow pages, the Allegheny Theater was listed at 3141 Frankford Avenue.

I don’t know how that happened. I was trying to say that my mom lived over by 22nd and Lehigh, near Connie Mack Stadium, and went to Olney High.
My mom lived went to Olney High. My grandparents moved into an apartment on Queen Lane after they retired.
I think the address should be 1453 N. 52nd Street.
I think it gives the current seating as 620.

The address should be 490 Neptune, per an old city directory listing as well as the current listing for Radio Shack.

Advertised as the New Cine Lido in the 1972-73 Brooklyn yellow pages.
“Attracts the public, and makes them come back”, I think.

I saw “Earthquake” at the Ventnor, with the Sensurround. What a great movie.
It probably was the Ventnor. It’s been a while.
Hard to believe that was in Camden. I never saw the town in its better days.
